    Thoughts on Hiper PSU

In my system I currently have a Hiper 530w PSU. I've noticed some people saying Hiper PSUs aren't great and to avoid them. Is it OK to use for my rig? I would rather buy another quality PSU than have this one fail and take any hardware with it.

    Re: Thoughts on Hiper PSU

Well one thing that can be said is afaik they don't take your system with them. I wouldn't be happy with it but if you already have it there might be less harm in using it than you think.

PSU's being as expensive as they are right now it's hard to get a good deal but I think the OCZ ModXStream Pro makes good sense if it's modular you are after.

    Around £40 gets the 400W and £50 gets the 500W I think.

    Re: Thoughts on Hiper PSU

Hipers seem to have attracted a reputation for not lasting. I think it would be unfair to Hiper to rate them amongst the generic cheapo psu manufacturers. I believe they do make good psus but may have suffered from some poor component selection. I have attached some reviews from JonnyGuru who I consider does a reasonable job of a PSU review. One is of a generic "serious risk of blowing up your computer" type psu and the other two are Hiper units.

    Generic PSU

    Hiper 630W PSU

    Hiper 580W PSU

I would recommend keeping your Hiper now that you have purchased it and I hope reading through these reviews reassures you that the Hiper not likely to cause harm to the rest of your computer.

    Re: Thoughts on Hiper PSU

I have gone through 2 Hiper 580w Type-R power supplies. The 1st one started to make a high pitched noise so I sent it to Hiper and they replaced it. The replacement after a while blew up! However it didn't take any components with it. I didn't bother rma'ing the replacement and just bought a tagen.

any PSU can take you system out, some are just less likely to...

makes such as EZCool, QTech PowMax etc, have no/less fault protection, so if they go, they are more likely to kill something than the reputable brands are...

No-one can say for certain, but it is a decent quality PSU, so i would expect the mean life to be around 10 years+

Ways to prolong it's life are keeping it clean and cool.

    edit: i was beateded

I had a Type R 580 which went pop after about a year and a half, luckily it didn't take out anything else.
