Might as well start one here as the hexus one doesnt seem to work. cant access the thread for some odd reason
anyways here is the hexus review http://www.hexus.net/content/item.ph...=16757&page=11

Hope the broken thread wasn't anything to do with me being shocked at the pre-NDA deadline reveal
Very impressive - looks like they've got great performance out of the extra cache and clock speed. They've targeted the price segment perfectly, Intel will have to cut price on their core 2 products to remain competative.. but they've got room to do that and most people already have a core 2 capable system now.
But for those of us looking to upgrade from something pre-core-2 it makes for a very interesting choice, albeit not as interesting as when the AM3 motherboards come out and we can look forward to a very long lasting system base. I think AMD have really learned their lesson wrt longevity of parts and they're going to make Intel pay (a little) for constantly changing motherboard specifications.
Really looking forward to the top X3 deneb chip - I think it's going to make a bonza performance per watt/price part.
edit: ooh the reviews changed - now only 67%, was 70.
Yeah it said "you do not have permission" - I felt quite insulted! Thanks for starting this thread instead...
lol
The new CPUs looks good. It's time there was some competition, even if i7 is still "lofty". It should mean several parts will have price cuts. I like price cuts.
the hardocp thread about their review is a lot of fun kyle appears to be on his period :/. seems there are two totally different conclusions being drawn from review sites at the moment, dont have time to check em all but will do after work.

Have to say I'm a bit surprised with the HExus score yes it doesn't beat i7 but it was never meant to, and yes it is not competing on a clock for clock basis with the intel quads but it is beating them on a price/performance level at stock settings (ignoring the Q6600 for a minute ) the Q9300 on Scan is £200 which is closer to the 940 BE than the 920 but the 920 beat it in almost all the tests.
Also if you wanted a decent crossfired quad core gaming rig then a phenom 2 could be the most cost effective method of getting there, a duel 16x PCIe board for a S775 CPU will cost you quite a bit as you need a X38 (which are very thin on the ground now) or X48 which can be expensive (cheapest on Scan is MSI for £140 if you wanted any real selection you would be looking at £160). For AMD all you need is one of the 790GX or 790FX cost ~£100 (the few 790GX boards that cost significantly less only have duel 8x).
I also can see that AMD may get back some of the off the shelf trade they now have 2.8GHz and 3GHz quad core processors which is obviously better than a 2.5GHz processor in the eyes of the great unwashed.
Anyway time will tell if Phenom II really shines when the AM3 boards come out but it is definetly a step in the right direction and will be considered in my next upgrade (if and when that happens and they are still around).
just wish hexus tv and things didnt splash arund the intel ads so much, then i wouldnt need to have these feelings i have

According to Hexus, anything over 50% is a good buy so with a score of 67% they are saying they are a very good buy.

Yeah I always forget that Hexus have a realistic scoring system so used to seeing scores of 7.5/10 for tosh that when you see 67% you think hey thats a bit low!
I realise Hexus want to be able to differentiate between products more effectively maybe they should have given the other processors ratings as well so that they were easily compared.
Anyway thanks for the reminder
when did hexus switch over to the %'s i dont think the last one i read had it at all

I'm going to wait and see if Intel cuts prices at the end of this month. May be interested if quads come down in price a little more
Anand's article is stirring the rumour pot of price cuts. I'd link but their site has gone down
IMO it's nothing to write home about. Performance (except in a couple of areas) is about on a par with (say) a Q6600 at clock, but does it clock as well? It certainly doesn't have 4 cores. And it's no cheaper than comparable Intel parts. Who is going to upgrade to it?
It really needed to be faster than anything except top-end Intel chips but priced pretty much as now to stir any real interest. Otherwise it's just an option for a middlish system.
Would be good to see how these perform paired with an AM3 board. Pricing will be key, £200+ is a tad expensive.
