    Plans for old rig

I've got an old rig with an AMD 64 3000+ (939) anda 7600GT IIRC.
Just wondering what the best thing to do with it is, I was thinking of using it as a media server, or a torrent box but really I'm not sure how to go about doing this. I've got a 360 which I'm planning on using as a media extender for my living room too.

    Any suggestions ?

i think you got it right with the media centre/torrent box. With a 360 as a media centre i think your onto a winner

Using it as a seedbox is pretty much destroying the whole aspect of a seedbox. It may be to free up HDD space, but it'll still be using up your own connection, which is the main reason people use them...

Lower power consumption, meaning I could turn my main rig off and still seed.

Anyway, I think it'll be media thingummy, I just need to get maybe a 640 or TB drive in to it.

Then's the tricky part- I'll probably just run a cat5e cable in to it ( I'm planning on keeping it in the cupboard), but what software is best?

    also, what OS?

Im not sure how easy it is to use your XB360 with other os' apart from windows tbh. I would use home basic and strip it down.
