Xigmatek Crossbow

How much are they and are they worth it?

How does it work? I know its a mounting kit and not much else

They sell for about £4 on Scan.co.uk. It's personal preference really, some people really dislike the intel push pin system and would rather have a more secure bolt kit. They are pretty simple in theory to install, but in practice they can be cumbersome. I'd buy one as the HSF is pretty tall and I'd like the security of the kit.

I've just installed a Xigmatek (About 20 minutes ago), and I'm just waiting for my knuckles to stop stinging; as I was pushing the push pins in, I repeatedly managed to draw blood off the damn cooling fins. As such, I'd say go for the screw kit.

yes imo it is worth a few quid...i installed the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 and considering the size of it and the weight i feel more secure (in my head ) in comparison to the push pins

Just bought the Xigmatek HSF 120mm, The Crossbow, Two eXtreme Xigmatek cooling fans and the Xigmatek Thermal Grease for £29 the lot delivered, saving me about £12 from SCAN

The deadly nature of the heatsink fins is a definite pain in the knuckles My HSF was nicely coated in my blood by the time I got it installed, wonder if claret is good for thermal conductivity??

I ended up buying the Crossbow kit in the end, I reckon it's a no-brainer unless you're planning on removing your cooler frequently... Don't see why Xigmatek doesn't just bundle it up and charge a couple more quid...

Hi, sorry for bumping this thread, but I just ordered a Xigmatek 1283 and was wondering whether or not to buy the $4 crossbow mounitng system.
I've seen that you are all talking about how the push pins are weak, however I have a AMD2 socket. It is gonna be stronger than Intel socket attachement system? Or is it still worth buying the crossbow thingy? (I really don't want to spent £4 + shipping on something I don't need)

No it's because the dark gods of the pc demand blood sacrifices.

as said it's for socket 775 only, but also they push pin system isn't weak if anything it's very tight and hard to get in.
Once you do manage to get them locked in they'll hold a cooler in very securely (motherboard bending secure) the problem is that it can require a lot of force to get the push pins in.

Yeah, the pushpin method is very strong, just akward for big coolers. Definately secure though, my heatsink weighs 930g, fine.

Ok, thanks alot. I guess I will have to use the brackets for the AMD2 socket. Hope it'll be secured in place.
