My 520W HX is a paper weight!

    Unbelievable.

Pretty annoyed tbh. Just had to recable the P182 with my (fixed cable ) OCZ. Done a good job of it as you would expect but fecking nightmare.

Can't decide whether the really REALLY expensive PCI card that was in there took it out, or the PSU went and took that with it, going with the former. But I'm a PSU down and a PCI card worth more than the PC was new.. annoyed!

PCI card, sound card, raid card or you mean graphics card?

Surely it's under warranty still, no? Hope you sort it anyway

I want pics of the new cabling too

    It's 4.98*

Re: My 520W HX is a paper weight!

Bought from scan I guess? Warranty should be no problem in that case. But I also guess that the warranty doesn't include damage to cards caused by the PSU failure?

Sorry to hear about the trouble, first one of these units I've heard of failing (although obviously there will be others). Any idea what caused it, a power spike for example?

Nope no idea. The card isn't a great concern tbh, we have a spare and they come through his work but annoying none the less.

5 year warranty on the psu... possibly try insurers for the instrument card?

I'm shipping to scan and thats it. They have suggested they cover them for 5 years straight back to them.. if they don't I'll buy something else I think, unless the shipping is reasonable.

Well you got it from Scan? You said no idea in the above posts. They said they'd ship it to Corsair if you got it from them so you're sorted

Re: My 520W HX is a paper weight!

I've actually had a HX520 that was DOA, fan made a clicking sound, wouldn't power up the pc and kept turning it's self off.
RMA'd via scan without hassle apart from teh build being delayed for a week.
As said even with the best it happens, it's the responce and rma process that really sorts out the good from the bad.

Does that pci card use an additional power feed? if not then I'd be surprised if it was the psu that killed it and didn't kill the motherboard as well seeing as that's where it would get it's power without a seperate powerlead.

I had that same one that took out the CPU and Mobo. Glad to see I'm not the only one (Except you didn't lose your hardware)

Re: My 520W HX is a paper weight!

Ouch, that is really bad. I'm starting to think the argument for more expensive PSU's being more reliable and less likely to damage components pretty much moot. They all fail as far as I can tell.

It's especially bad for an expensive PSU such as the HX520 to actually kill a component. I'd let Corsair know my feelings on the subject if I were you.

Re: My 520W HX is a paper weight!

My Corsair 620HX blew up yesterday. I can't be certain but there's nothing happening with it at all when I press my lovely 'on' button. I turned the computer on, went to make a cup of tea and the circuit-breaker went and now nothing is happening. I also bought it from scan about a year and halfish ago.

I have another psu in the house but don't really want to use it because it's very old and rated at a meagre 250W. Is there anything I can do to verify it's the PSU before I try and RMA (to either Scan if they're feeling helpful or to Corsair)?

Sorry for the minor thread hijack! (I also have a fairly pricey sound card I hope it hasn't blown... not to mention everything else!).
