you'd be safe letting them go all the way up to 80, even 90 if you feel comfortable, before i stepped into water cooling the max i went is 95, but you will never get real time temps like you do with stress testing.

I suspected that my motherboard was the issue. I do already have a backup PC with a better P35 based motherboard and an HX520w psu. I currently have an E4300(3ghz) in that machine. It was easier to overclock the E4300 with the P35 motherboard than the 975X in the Shuttle!! I thought of perhaps using the backup PC instead for the q6600 but I only have XP on that machine. The SFF has both Vista and XP. Since Farcry 2 runs better under Vista and both this and Alan Wake(which is supposed to be a Vista exclusive) are supposed to make good use of quad cores I decided to use the processor in the SFF.

P35 boards are amazing! I'd recommend the P5K premium everyday! its the best board i have owned so far, clocks better than a p45 imo.

The P35 is what the Q6600 is gagging for! Isnt there any way to get your vista license renewed fro the motherboard change, just like xp, i mean microsoft have to understand that people change hardware all the time!

I got mine from MSDNAA(basially for free) so I do not know whether I can transfer it or not?! Anyway I am going to try out the Windows 7 Beta on the backup machine. I got the license key but the blasted direct links for the download gave a corrupted file. Tried a few times on different computers but it did the same thing!! Hopefully MS will get around to solving this!!

i was overclocking my second hand G0 Q6600 today and i managed to get to 3.15 without touching any voltages. Im currently on 3.4Ghz at 1.37 Vcore (bios) hitting 67c max. My northbridge is at 1.33 and i bumped up the termination a notch. Only thing holding me back atm is that my northbridge is hitting 73c (well i think Aux my NB... bloody speedfan gives random names to stuff) when under orthos mix stress. Should i be worried about this or it is quite normal?

Under stress testing the this is normal but under everday use, even under what you may consider intensive work your temps will never reach the height of under stress testing, so nothing to worry about.

If its holding back your OC and you want to go higher then do get some extra air running over it maybe even water fro that extra cooling

I am using a 975X motherboard

And there is the reason.
I had an AW9D-MAX (975X aswell), and although the board was FANTASTIC, it didnt like the Q6600 at all.
Even though the bios revision allowed me to use it, it simply didnt read all the settings correctly and ran the processor extremely hot.

Sounds like you are doing OK though
