Q6600 overclocking question!!
I managed to get a secondhand Q6600 G0 stepping for under 80 quid so I have decided to retire my old E4500(2.95ghz).
What voltages have you guys and girls used when overclocking your Q6600? I am only looking to get mine to 3ghz. I am currently using 1.312/1.328v (according to CPU-Z) for the Q6600 to get to 3ghz. Is this too high??
It has passed 7 iterations of IntelBurnTest and a hour of OCCT so far.

Just mucked around with the settings some more. I got the voltage down to 1.280v/1.296v according to CPU-Z under load . It passed 20 iterations of Intel Burn Test and another hour of OCCT.
According to Core Temp the VID is 1.325v. However it seems that the CPU-Z reading is lower. Does this mean that the processor is actually running at lower core voltage than stock even though it is overclocked!!??:confused:

I got it on Ebay. You need to keep a constant check but it is possible to get a Q6600 or Q8200 for £100 and under still. It took me a while to get one at that price. The best thing would be to ask a seller what price they are looking for. Some sellers may add a buy it now or end the auction early for a specific price.

The reason why it might show lower in CPUZ is because you have intel speedstep on, so its probably taking the clock speed and voltage down. Coretemp usually shows the fixed vid for the cpu. You should be able to hit 3ghx at stock volts, i run mine around 1.22/23v and it seems fine, but then again I never ran any stability testing software.

I looked at the voltage reading in CPU-Z under load. I was running either Intel Burn Test or Orthos and the CPU cores were all at 100% utilisation.

At 3GHZ, you shouldnt have to touch the voltages.
I went to 3.4ghz without any increase. Alot is determined by the MB you use aswell though.

Unfortunatly my 3Ghz Q6600 voltages are a tad high but if I try to set them lower I get BSOD or drop a core with prime!
My core temp are good though.

3ghz on a high vid like that seems to be a good overclock, ecspecially if its one of the most recent batches
a low vid like mine 1.250 will do higher clocks simply due to it requiring lower voltage to run at. decent second hand q6600 sell for like £100 give or take a tenner.
Why not crank the vcore up to 1.4 ive managed to get a 400mhz fsb stable at that

I tweaked the settings again. With speedstep turned off the processor voltage at 3ghz is at 1.344v when I boot into windows. Under load with Intel Burn Test and Orthos it goes down to 1.280v to 1.296v.
I tried decreasing the voltages but under Intel Burn Test the system will BSOD after 15+ iterations.
With the current settings it is stable with 25 iterations of Intel Burn Test,1 hour of OCCT blend,3 iterations of 3DMark06 and 9 iterations of a Crysis benchmark. I will also try Orthos for 12 hours to see if it is stable when I have the time.
I am using a 975X motherboard in my Shuttle SD37P2. The BIOS has limited voltage options as you increase the voltage by 25mV increments but you cannot decrease more it than the rated value for the processor.

defo motherboard limitation there, i wouldnt down the voltage at those settings sounds like you need to take vdroop into account

Is the vdroop very high then for my motherboard?? So if I drop the voltage any further the CPU under load will have too little voltage to function and hence the BSOD after a while??

no your vdroop seems quite normal, should get better the higher the voltage goes.
yes vdroop is causing the voltage under load to drop below what is needed for the cpu to be stable :)
I have uber bad vdroop and vdrop with my 680i even after the mods

I got my (2-3 year old) B3 Q6600 to 3.2ghz at a voltage of 1.45625, sits under load at 57c, so im chuffed with that! FSB of 355. First time o/c'r, so was happy with that.
edit; looking around 1.45v seems very high, couldnt get it stable at anything less though. At the end of the day though, a year later no problems.

Typical B3steeping there, heat i reckon is your problem
To the OP is your Q6600 a B3 stepping? if so don't expect too high clocks with it, if its a GO the should be able to reach 3.6 most probable higher.
Mine is a GO see my system for volts and clock. the heat issue is a lot less prominent on these SLACR GO steppings

I have a G0 stepping Q6600. I am using it in a Shuttle SFF pc so I do not want to overclock it too much due to heat. At 100% load with OCCT the cores are at around 70C. I may try some better thermal compound as I am currently using Zalman thermal paste(the one with the brush).
