What is the best non silver thermal compound currently??
I have noticed that my overclocked Q6600 runs quite hot. With above 20c ambient air temperature it idles at 40C to 45C on average. However when I use Intel Test Burn it reaches around 75C and around 65c to 70C with Orthos!! :(
I am using a modified ICE cooler in a Shuttle SD37P2 SFF pc.
I am also using Zalman Super Thermal Grease ZM-STG1 at the moment but there must be better stuff around at the moment??
Not interested in silver based compounds though!!
Re: What is the best non silver thermal compound currently??
Clunk reviewed Gellid GC1 Thermal Compound over on his site. Looks good in testing.
Re: What is the best non silver thermal compound currently??
No other candidates then?? Apart from Ebay does anyone know where to get the Gelid thermal compound in the UK??
Re: What is the best non silver thermal compound currently??
OCZ Freeze, MX-2? Not sure if they are non silver though.
Good thing about Freeze is it doesn't need a cure time :)
EDIT - That Gelid stuff is quite good, a review of it here shows it matches OCZ Freeze in performance too. All depends on which you prefer or which is cheaper :)
Re: What is the best non silver thermal compound currently??
I was going to sudgest the zalman stuff, not the best but easy to apply, then I saw in the other thread you said that's what you're currently using.
How much did you put on? did you paint both the cooler base and cpu?
What's the shuttle cooler base like for flatness?
Re: What is the best non silver thermal compound currently??
BTW why do you want it to be non silver?
Your temps are fine most average actually under air especially in that case!

I did not put much on the cooler though. Perhaps I wil reapply it again after giving the cooler and the CPU a good clean with some ethanol or TIM cleaner.
The Shuttle cooler is reasonably flat if I remember right but it did not have the shininess of some copper GPU coolers I have seen.

I am a bit worried about getting any silver based thermal compound on the motherboard. It would be more conductve than non-metal compound for example. Also the long curing times for AS5 which is supposed to be one of the best silver based compounds is a bit off-putting!!

You'll be fine with as5 or any other silver based paste, long as it doesnt get like on the under side of the board or in any silly places other than cpu socket though better safe than sorry ay lol
have always used as5 though am thinking about trying the mx2 stuff.
Yea the curing time is mental and then when you think your supposed to change it every 6 months! mine never gets the chance to even cure lol

You worry too much :P
I put silver liquid on my CPU before, now that you should worry about :D
Re: What is the best non silver thermal compound currently??
If you're still insistent on going none silver, then arctic silver ceramique is ceramic based...
But TBH just go with silver based :), if you do get any on the board, then just wipe it off, that will stop most occurrences progressing...
Re: What is the best non silver thermal compound currently??
I use ceramique for all my rigs and testing, works great and was fairly cheap last time I bought some.

Moogle, are you boiling mercury as a new form of cpu cooling and pc user toxification combo?
Re: What is the best non silver thermal compound currently??
arctic cooling mx2 non conductive and works a charm.

Naw, this was a long time ago, well in my 939 days + a TRUE. I was using Coollaboratory Liquid Pro. Still have the dangerous thing in my PC cupboard somewhere. It's said to eat aluminium so the TRUE survived but it left my 939 CPU utterly gazebo'ed
