Case fan

One of my case fans blew. 120 mm in an Lian Li case, ASUS motherboard.

What is the latest in silent (but not very expensive) fans? I would guess I can buy just about anything, but I may be wrong.

Also, I had no idea that my fan was gone. What can I do to set an alarm if a fan slows down too much or, at least, if the fan stops to work?

Simple, perhaps, but not to me :-(

The local shop here, MicroCenter (Cleveland, Ohio, USA) has Noctua (never heard of them), so I might run over and buy one. Yes, there are a little pricy, but I am working on a large translation project now, which will pay quite well, and I have very little time to devote to this.

If that does not work out, I'll look into the other brands.

Thank you, guys. Does anyone know about some alarm software? I have HWMonitor, but I am not sure it can emit an alarm.

depending on which asus motherboard you have remember to check the software that came with it, esp if it's one of the higher end motherboards as quite a few come with good hardware monitoring and control software. Also check the BIOS for options.
If you have a cheaper motherboard then your best bet is some 3rd party software like speedfan.

Quite right, I think I'm correct in saying that the high end ASUS motherboards (P5E is what I'm basing this on) even comes with a fan fail alarm built into the BIOS. If not, you might like to look into purchasing a fan controller with a fail alarm build in.

I have the P5B Deluxe WiFi-AP motherboard. No alarm went off, but I will check the BIOS, and I will also check the ASUS software (but on the ASUS site, for the fan-controlling software, it says (Not recommended" by some forum honcho, and I do not understand why, but have asked).
