USB Hub, self powered or external brick?
Scan 4 Port USB2 Hub External With Power Adaptor
Is that hub self powered from one of the motherboards USB ports or does it come with an external power brick of some kind?
Also is there any advantage to buying one of the branded more expensive hubs or is this one adequate? I struggle to see what could be different personally which makes me think I'd probably be paying for the brand name more than anything.
Re: USB Hub, self powered or external brick?
Very obviously it said it came with power adapter, and pretty much all 4 port USB hubs on the market now can be powered by motherboard USB port. You don't need to use the power adapter UNLESS you want to connect the following types of devices:
USB Fan / Heater / Monitor / Phone,MP3,Ipod charger.
Buying more expensive hubs usually give you a better quality one (e.g. the cable don't come lose easily, or the power supply is of higher quality).
And yes, otherwise you're just paying for the brand name.

Cheers, not really sure how I missed that. Must be more tired than I realise.
