This is continuing down the route of an SoC solution... something they have talked about for a while and is going to be in TV's and other systems...
The functionality of the 945 chipset is the same as any other chipset - ie a northbridge/mem controller, southbridge/PCI controller etc. pineview has integrated memory controller on die etc., so it is taking on chipset functionality just like lynnfied/p55, but it's any chipset, not 945 specifically and nothing to do with the actual 945 architecture.
Yes of course. There have been many revisions of chipset architecture since 945.
I think any details from Intel are vague at this point, but the fact that they've already moved the memory controller to the CPU ala i7 and i5 should tell you it's already very different from 945.Unless Intel provides more details, my assumption is valid.
