Sound Card out of a Reaper

Hi, my friend has given me the sound card out of his system. it is the one that comes with the ASUS Rampage Extreme motherboard (PCIE x1 ) it looks very nice and has loads of groovy stuff but i have a question,

Will it work on any motherboard? if so what drivers will i need to use?

    Thanks

Dont know why i said reaper in the title i am a duh brain!

Any way i found this picture which is identical to the one i have sitting i front of me,

As you can see it is a Republic of gamers card and i believe it has 7.1 support which is great for my media center. i currently have a c media and my onkyo amp is doing all the hard work but this would make the differance!

I think i will just go ahead and try it, whats to lose hey!!

I can say that the PCI 1x slot on my old Maximus Formula (that this normally goes in to) is fairly standard and works with other PCIe cards fine. Whether there's any funky BIOS coding or something that only allows the card to work with certain boards, I've no idea. To be honest, it's no better than your Joe Average sound chip built into every single board these days anyway. The only difference is that it's on a separate card rather than built into the board.

well you turn the card on and of fin the bios, and i know my striker extreme has the same setup, and i know part of the soundcards in the mobo, at leat it wont fry your board.

on mine its not a pciex1 slot, its set further back to be specific for the souncard, so dont go trying to ram it in if it doesnt fit as im not sure if thats still the case.

The SupremeFX sound card that comes along with the package supposedly sports Creative’s X-Fi and EAX 4.0 technology. We thought the card might be a Creative chipset but after we cracked off the cover we saw the SoundMax AD2000BX chipset, the same one on the Asus Maximums II Formula motherboard. So it’s just the Creative X-Fi software running the show.
So a high end onboard chip designed to work with creative x-fi drivers
8 channel surround and eax 4
Should be good, however how much hassle it will be to get working and how much better if at all over other onboard sound is another matter.

It's not really though. It's like the "Creative" laptop sound "cards" that have been going around for a few years now. It's not a chip designed to work with anything special. They're just bog-standard Realtek HD sort of chip. With ASUS it's usually the SoundMAX chips on the ASUS Maximus boards, as mentioned, but with a software package with a GUI like the Creative ones (presumably licensed from Creative). It really is no better than any other onboard sound solution found on any board I've used in the past couple of years.

I'd be absolutely staggered if the drivers don't work on a board which features the same chip to be honest, but then again some of the laptop ones required activation.....
