PCI-E 2.0 Overclocking Motherboard?

Hey there,

may be getting a chunk of money soon and i figure seeing as though i've got nothing else to spend it on (perhaps a sata dvd drive? ) ill upgrade from a p35 chipset to something with pci-e 2.0 to get the max out of my GFX card.

So, i don't really have a budget as i havent got any money yet, but ~£50 mark. (S775, im hoping i7 won't offer that much of a benefit for a while)

Motherboard 1
I'm looking for:
- PCI-E 2.0
- just 1 IDE slot if possible, my dvd drive is IDE and unless i can get a ultra cheap DVD drive.
- Good overclockability/not a toasty mobo.

Motherboard 2 - Cheapest one possible that fulfills all functions.
And just out of interest as i may yet save up:

What, even the non-sli one? Basically, i want my current motherboard, just with pci-e 2.0.

At any rate, give me the kind of price/boards im looking at - it was inevitable it wasn't going to be on budget

found an Asus board on ebuyer for £100 that does full sli not sure about OCing though.

you might as well use urine as watercooling.

Think about it... the quality of the capacitors might not be that good at that price and still use chemical capacitors as opposed to solid capacitors. Also, the power phasing system might not be as good on the cheaper boards, compared to the more expensive boards available.

Also, your not going to get a good chipset for overclocking as the cheaper end of the market are really aimed at normal operation and as such they might not reach or operate with a high FSB unlike the the better quality, better chipset based motherboards available.

He's asking for two specs - #1 is £50 and not SLI. #2 is >£50 and SLI.

#1 is not going to happen in the current climate. Cheapest is ~60 for a p43 chipset board.

#2 can only be done with 790 SLI chipsets if I recall = very expensive. Maybe 780 SLI could too.

But why do you need PCIe 2.0, let alone x16?

Gigabyte GA-EP31-DS3L £51 was £41 before the big bang, although(not 100% on this intel spec says 1.1 http://www.intel.com/products/deskto...1-overview.htm) does not meet the pcie v2.0 requirements of the op, it does make the £50 super clocker cat.

Great board ran it for a 4 months with my 4300@3.2 super stable 4gb ram

I'd keep your current board mate, it will make sod all difference getting pcie 2.0, certainly nothing you'd notice. If you really want a few more FPS, overclock your graphics card, but personally I don't think it's worth the hassle.

Moving to PCI-E 2.0 as said wont have any effect on your performance, PCI-E 1.0 16x is more than enough bandwidth for your 260. Better off sticking with you better quality P35 mobo than getting something cheap with a better label.

There are places doing Abit boards cheap as the company is now bust. Quality of motherboards still the same just no support, seen some X38 / X48 boards around the £60 - £70 mark.

Not sure thats true, they left the motherboard market and havent gone bust so the support should be there still.
