Which printer for a large amount of printing?
Hi All,
I've got a large amount of printing to do (3,000+) sheets, it's only for personal use so I'm not bothered at all about quality at all as long as it's easily readable (I intend on using the lowest draft print setting possible to conserve ink). The pages are mainly B&W pages of text, but a couple of words per page are in colour so a B&W laser printer isn't an option.
Could anyone suggest a budget printer (£50-60) that isn't going to cost too much to run, and preferably isn't a lexmark :p. Also I'm planning on getting cheapo unofficial replacement cartridges from http://www.advantage-online.co.uk (although I haven't used them before).
Thanks in advance.

I dont know about which printer to go for, so sorry Im not able to help in that way. But I would stay away from cheap unofficial cartridges as much as possible. Ive used a few from a variety of different manufacturers in an epson stylus C20SX I had a while ago, and they produced really blotchy prints (completely unreadable). Switched back to the official cartridges and the pages were readable once again.
EDIT: On second thoughts, you could probably pick up a cheap colour laser printer off fleabay for that now?

Any cheap laser would do it. I picked an old HP out of a skip a few years ago, one toner cart did wifes degree course. Maybe look on ebay for a cheap colour laser
Re: Which printer for a large amount of printing?
I use an Epson R340 printer with CISS, total printing cost is about 1p/page but it prints insanely slow.
CISS is available for Brother printers and a couple other brands as well.

JohnLewis were selling a colour HP laser for £69 today in the Aberdeen store. I would have bought it but don't have anywhere to put it. I'm guessing it was an end of line display model. Original price was £129

Caution is advised, though.
I looked at an HP colour laser at the £120 mark recently. The snag was that the toner cartridges (four) supplied with it were "starter" cartridges rated at a few hundred pages. You then needed full capacity replacements, which seemed to work out at about £65-ish each.
Buying a £120 printer is one thing. Having to fork out another £260 shortly after for toner cartridges is entirely another. For me, it suggests either buying a £300-£400 printer, with proper capacity cartridges, in the first place, or not buying one. So before buying cheap colour lasers, check if the cartridges are "starter", and if so, what capacity and what replacement price.
Re: Which printer for a large amount of printing?
i bought a Samsung ML-2010R from ebuyer a while back for about £50 quid.
It's pretty fast and did about 1200 pages, before he died :(
Worth a try! :D
Re: Which printer for a large amount of printing?
Maybe a cheap B&W laser to churn out pages and a separate inkjet for colour pages?
If not then just get a colour laser.
