Memory speed and OP system.
I have Corsair Dominator ram in my pc, PC-8500 1066mhz. My operating sytem is XP Pro 32 bit. I have 4 gb (2x2gb sticks), I know 32 bit can only show 3.25gb, but my mobo only shows the ram running at 800 mhz and I cant select 1066, is this again down to the 32 bit, if I move to 64 bit Pro will it then allow it to run at 1066mhz. Excuse me for being thick, Im a newbie where this is concerned, its a learning curve.
Regards.
Re: Memory speed and OP system.
Changing to a 64bit OS wont have any effect on the speed your memory can run. What motherboard do you have? Its more likely your board doesnt support 1066 memory.
Re: Memory speed and OP system.
Its an MSI k9n2 SLi Platinum
Re: Memory speed and OP system.
It states it supports 1066mhz , Ive been in the bios and its only showing 800 and cant find a facility to select 1066 if there was one in there.
Re: Memory speed and OP system.
Are you running an AM2 or AM2+ CPU on the thing, as...
Quote:
Supports Dual DDR2 667/800/1066 (1066 for AM2+ only)
http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?f...8&maincat_no=1
Assuming you have an AM2+ chip, make sure the BIOS is seeing and setting itself up for the CPU correctly. Failing that, has me just as confused too, sorry. :juggle: Suppose it could also be a compatibilty issue with the memory, but that Corsair is decent stuff so is doubtfull and would probably be causing you more problems than this tbh.
Re: Memory speed and OP system.
The bios is set correctly for the chip, its a Phenom 9850..Everytime I turn on the pc next morning i get this message...
DRAM frequency for DDR2 800 (unganged mode, 64-bit)
Initialising USB controller...Done
DQS training failed on previous boot, reverted to slower DRAM speed.
Press F1 to resume.
If I then go into the bios, the boot sequence has been reverted back to factory settings, ie. floppy/HD/CD-Rom in that order, I then set it to HD/CDRom/Diabled.
Pc runs ok till next morning. I can stop/start it and its fine, leave it a long while and the problem is back.
When I went to take it in to be built one of the guys mentioned the compatability issue was known with this board and memory, anyone got any imput on this? They mucked me about so I built it myself. I know everything is in right, all drivers loaded etc, I think its a hardware issue or mobo issue but need to ask the guys for help.
Im not very gen'd up so I need some sound advice to know what to do here or i'll have to take it to some geezer.
cheers.:help:
Re: Memory speed and OP system.
Unganged mode? Check you have it in the correct memory slots. Does it run dual channel?
Re: Memory speed and OP system.
Well, it turned out to be a duff stick of Ram. Although brand spanking new. Set back, replaced by Corsair under warranty after testing, installed and all is fine.
Just goes to show....:)
Re: Memory speed and OP system.
Too many duff memory sticks these days. There's no excuse so I'm guessing it's deliberate (i.e. deliberate that the Quality Control is lacking).
