Cant get sound working-please help its driving me up the wall!

Hi everyone, I hope you can help sort this out its driving me mad

I have an Advent 4213 netbook which was formatted. I eventualy got everything working except for the sound. In the Win Xp device manager, it is reporting that all the drivers are installed and working correctly. However, in the sound and audio properties there is "no audio device" so obviously cant adjust system volume etc.
The manual states that it is a Realtek ALC662.

I gave up once and did another fresh install as it was working before but stil no joy.
I cant see an option in the bios to turn it on/off.

    Cheers

are there any uknown devices in control pannel

It could be that the xp installation there are no suitable drivers for all of the features of the sounds card. If this is the case try to locate drivers either from the realtek website (not the best layed out site), www.guru3D.com, or www.laptopvideo2go.com

    good luck

sometimes its worth looking to get the latest install patch, although as circuit monkeys quite right fully says, the realtek site isn't the best site to use, try using driverguide. they normally have most realtek drivers and problems to sound issues!

Advent drivers are a ****** to find

I googled "Advent support" and this came up
    http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/advent/laptop/4213.htm

choose the Drivers "Tech Guys" link half way down on right.

So, the sound driver SHOULD be in the Intel chipset driver pack. http://support.thetechguys.com/Uploa...%20Chipset.zip

    Is that what you installed?

Re: Cant get sound working-please help its driving me up the wall!

Thanks for the help so far, I really appreciate it. Like I said, the drivers are installed and are being reported as working correctly in device manager, but in control panel\audio devices there is "no device installed". At the point of writing the first post there was no eclamations in device manager

I have been messing with it most of the day, autmatic updates has installed XP sp3, and now I do have an exclamation in device manager FFS! This is "Audio device on High Definition Audio Bus"

At the moment I am seeing if I can find drivers to try on the sites you suggested.

Thanks again for the tips so far
