New gaming mouse

So I had a Logitech MX 400 but it died (actually, read died as 'threw it out because the bottom wasn't flat, the mouse wheel was horrible, and I didn't really like the way you had to 'cradle' the mouse with your hand).

So I'm looking for a new mouse, and I was considering getting the Razer Diamondback. However I've seen on forums and Razer's own blog that the Diamondback and Copperhead had random disconnect problems due to a flaw in the wire entering the mouse.

I'm wondering if anyone has the Diamondback and how reliable it has been. I'm hoping Razer fixed the issues in those models at some point recently but I'm not convinced.

Lastly, I'll need a mouse mat as well, any recommendations would be appreciated.

Ordered the Diamondback with a Goliathus Standard Speed mousemat. If it dies I'll just RMA it.

The only time my old copperhead failed to be recognised was at bootup, never once did i "lose" connection when the pc was powered up. I assumed it was down to the pc not giving enough power to the usb port? Either way unplugging it and plugging it back in and the pc recognised it again. Happened maybe once a week??

Sorry to be a little blunt but listening to other people's recommendations on a mouse is not a great idea.
The mouse is the most personalised part of a computer, it's one of the parts that gets used most often (especially for gamers) and as a result you need one that's more tailored to how you are. There's no point having a Razer if you've hands like shovels, for one it'll be uncomfortable and for two it'll do the same as the original boomslangs - put your wrist in bandage for life. The same goes for any mouse though. You will get a bigger advantage in gaming from a comfortable mouse than one with a stupid resolution (which is 80% bollocks, it's worth pointing out, marketing for people who think they'll be better at games because of a number).

Point being, without moaning too much - pop down to your local PC World or similar and have a "wiggle" with some of the mice on display. Find the one that suits you best, and if it's especially a gaming mouse you'll probably be better for it. Leave the store, tutting loudly about the price and order it online ;) Nowt worse than ordering a mouse on someone elses recommendations to get it delivered and finding it's bigger than your entire hand and won't even fit on your mousemat :)

Sorry if this sounds a little blunt - I've a dislike of "gaming mice" anyway as you might have guessed but I don't like people falling into a disbelief that comfort should be sacrificed. Something i've had to take notice of in the past due to the shovels attached to the end of my arms! :D

The Logictech G9 comes with two different covers to increase the chances there is one you like.

I personally prefer the large mouses because of my bigger hand and what I'm used to.

If it was happening when the PC was booted up it probably means a connection issue. People were saying that if they 'tugged' or moved the cable where it enters the mouse, it would cause the disconnection. Your PC should be able to power your mouse.

I have the razor copperhead mouse and the only issue I have is when windows crashes and reboots i need to unplug the mouse and plug it back in before windows recognises it again.

The mouse is immense other than that. Love the on the fly sensitivity changes.

I've got the Razer Deathadder and it's been flawless so far - no problems whatsoever and a huge improvement over my old MS Intelimouse.

Sage advice except that I've found over the last year or so, while looking for a new mouse of my own, that PC World, Dixons and the like no longer put their mice on display for you to give them a try. I even nipped into Yo-Yo Tech's store while I was in London and found that they didn't have any open boxes.

It's all very well saying you should try them first but I'm damned if I can find anywhere to do it!

I'm not certain they have the Razer mice (mouses?) in question anyway.

Updated G5 here, great mouse, own all the time in BF2 with it.:cool:

I've been using the MS Habu (had the Razor Copperhead before).

Both are excellent for gaming but I found that unless you have large hands with long fingers, the Copperhead can get uncomfortable over prolonged periods of time.

I had a diamondback and it was a pain having to keep unplugging and plugging it back in to get it to work.
It looked nice and was nice when it worked. Now I have a logitech.

If it WAS something like that how come it never happened when in use? http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/...lies/dunno.gif

Either way quirks aside its a great mouse just mine (and kopites with his similar "problems") needs to be unplugged and plugged back in now and again, no amount of wiggling the cable / resetting it ever got it recognised again?? Believe me i tried. :cool:

I found that if you disabled it and then enabled it in device manager sometimes it worked and other times it caused BSOD.

Must admit i never tried that, as my pc was on my desk it was easier to just unplug it etc..

Seems alot of people with Razer mice have weird disconnection issues. I hope I don't regret ordering the Diamondback.

Just going to say my mouse.... Saitek Cyborg!. Pro mouse, flaws but many pros so it wins for me :) and its very comfy so nice to use.

Well I got the diamondback, and I can honestly say the left and right mouse buttons are the flakiest i've ever seen. I've had £5 mice with far higher quality buttons. The pressure needed to press varies with each click, and the right button takes more pressure than the left. Not only that but they both meet resistance when pressed occasionally in the form of friction that is noticeable during normal use, and makes an audible 'squeak' when it happens.

I think i'll buy a £5 logitech piece of junk next time.
