    Abit P35 Worthy Buy Still

Got a friend who is about to build a new pc and all he needs is a new mobo and has got about £80 to spend on it.
Whilst he was looking he found an Abit IP35 Pro XE for £66 and would quite like to buy it.

What would the warranty be like beraing in mind Abit have gone.

Is it still worth while bearing in mind he's going to be overclocking a Q6600.

On a side note, due to him working on an oil rig i was going to order it for him and post it to him but he'd like me to check it for him when it arrives to make sure it works.

How would i go about doing this as i have a E4300, RAM, GPU and an old psu but no case. The psu is a 24pin mobo connector but a 4pin cpu 12v one. Would it be ok just to use the 4pin 12V to do a quick test. What would be the best method to give it a quick test to make sure it works.

Plug it all in to yours.. it might kick up a fuss though if it wants all 8pins epecially if its a quad core.

They are still very good boards though, you lose PCIe 2.0 and thats about it really especially if he is using the Q6600.

Abit said they will give full 3 year warranties on any boards bought.

Thanks. I hope for testing it will be fine and if needs be i can always pull my HX620 out.

I assume for turing it on out of the case i just stick a screwdriver by the on jumpers so it bridges the connection.

Oh sorry you are testing with a dual anyway aren't you. Should work tbh..

Never had to do it myself, but yeah thats pretty much the jist of it.

Just another couple of questions before i stop becoming a pain!

Could help but notice that whilst reading one of the reviews it said the OC sent him a B Grade board and something tells me my friend wouldn't like this.

Another thing is that when you try and download anything from the Abit website it doesn't work which i can see creating problems later on.

Re: Abit P35 Worthy Buy Still

OC will send b-grade from their clearence section so check if its in there.

If not it should be boxed up new with all the cables and CD's etc..

The biostar P45 boards are pretty reasonable if you want something different. You can get them from scan.

Also check scan for the P35's as they have both the PRO and the XE.

Well i looked in the clearence section and i can see anyone's so I assume it will be new and sealed.
Plus any board that were B grade had it in there title.

(Heres the link for the board though as i just want to be 100% as i know OC service isn't to great.

Re: Abit P35 Worthy Buy Still

I have an Asus P5K-SE and I can easily run my E4300 at 3ghz. The P35 motherboards are excellent value for money if you can get one for under £70. The newer chipsets have a few more features but the P35 will do the job well and cheaper.

it's actually got it's own onboard button for that - no need to get the screwdriver out

abit warranty in the UK was 2 years not 3 & in the first year yor first port of call is the vendor should you have any problems.

Well just ordered it so i hope it works and my mate can overclock it well.

He's aiming for 3.2Ghz and i reckon on the IP35 Pro it should be easy as i've read people getting up to 4Ghz!

Re: Abit P35 Worthy Buy Still

p35's are still good boards and esp the Abit ones, that's a great price btw

Personally I'd be more worried about the OcUK support than the ABit support, yes even with the current ABit situation.

I'm still sad that ABit pulled out of motherboard manufactor esp as there p45 boards looked so nice.

Gary Key on Anandtech obviously had a preproduction IP45 Pro & said that it would have been a great mobo

I'm still running the Abit IP35 Pro, got my E6750 up to 3.2 pretty easily, I think I could get it further but quite happy with this atm
