Asus Glaciator 4850
So I just thought I would get some opinions on this deal. My mate is selling his 4850 Glaciator for £60, and so I wanted some opinions on whether that was a worth while upgrade from an 8800GT at that price. The reason its so cheap is because hes voltmodded it so technically the warranty is void, now I trust him and know it works fine, so its not a dodgy buy in that respect, what do you all think about whether its worth the upgrade at that price.
Thanks guys,

If your mobo was sli then it would of been better getting another 8800gt and sli but its not so 4850 wins

Re: Asus Glaciator 4850
Thanks guys, the input is much appreciated, ive got it from him just now, its still boxed, with all the bits plus has got extra ram sinks on it and is volted to 1.3v so im going to head for 800mhz core clock :)

Re: Asus Glaciator 4850
YES! esp on a 24" monitor
How high is the overclock with the volt mod?
Only thing I'd be vaguely worried over is the temps, the 4850 is not a cool card and if it's voltmodded they are probably higher

Re: Asus Glaciator 4850
yes of course!
just ask him to remove the volt mod so you can have lower temps and lower noise
return to stock settings and lose that 10% gain in performance. not worth the risk and all the above :)

Re: Asus Glaciator 4850
Well at 1.3v he told me it was running idle 50's and full load 80oC. Which I am perfectly happy with if thats the case, those are well within tolerances, seems asus's glaciator is doing a decent job of cooling it. Ive not actually tried it myself yet, will do when ive uninstalled the nvidia card soon, ill get back to you with the results.

(PS its on a 20" screen its not for my main PC but my uni one, Q6600@3Ghz, 8GB RAM SFF)

Re: Asus Glaciator 4850
Well ive just got back to a PC, so I thought I would give you all a heads up. Seems the 4850 isnt working for me :(, when I run a full screen app its bombing out so my mates taking it back, which is a shame because running windowed apps it was happy at 775/2300. But it wont run 3dmark or crysis even at stock, which makes me think either the cards dead or its something to do with the 9.1 drivers, either way atm I dont have the time to work out which so im going to have to say goodbye to my upgrade for the time being :(.
