As per my system, I've just ordered another 4Gb of RAM, will I notice a difference, or is it more of an Epeen upgrade?

I doubt very much you will, AFAIK only certain programs can take advantage of the extra ram.
You'd probably get more joy from overclocking your processor.
I've recently stuck another 4Gb in my system (8Gb total) and it doesn't seem to have had a massive effect...although everything seems to be a bit snappier than before. Could be down to the way my system's set up - your mileage may vary, of course!
Indeed.
I must look into the pre-caching of Vista, can I tell it to load certain folders/.exe's into RAM?

I do hope you've got vista 64bit, if not it's almost totally epeen

You may notice a slowdown in your system actually, sometimes more sticks to address means slower response from the cpu, and lower possible overclock.
I remember reading on A.N.Other forum (I think it might have been Corsair or Crucial) that with this quantity of memory, under-clocking from 800Mhz to 667Mhz is recommended. Aha, here you go.
Has anyone tried this? What's the reason behind underclocking the memory?
Cheers,
Adi
it says 800 or 667
There are a few more threads on that site that mention underclocking. (Sorry, my memory is at 800Mhz, which is why I defaulted to 667 in my previous post!)

I had to underclock to 667, when I upgraded to 4GB on my old P5N-E board. Simple reason, the board wouldn't boot with all 4 sticks at 800mhz or higher. It was just a limitation of the board.
Newer boards handle 4GB+ a lot better. My IP-35 has no problems at all with 4 sticks at 800mhz.
Not sure about 8GB as I just don't need that much, so haven't tried it. The performance difference between 667 and 800mhz is marginal at best in my experience. So if you do need to underclock, I wouldn't worry to much about it.

Well im running 8Gb of RAM in both my main systems and ive never had to underclock anything, infact my DDR800 OCZ Reaper modules run happily at 1Ghz with 4x2GB sticks. 8Gb can be useful if your doing a lot of graphics work or generally a ridiculous amount of normal multi tasking, if not I doubt youll see much improvement, but it does mean you wont need to upgrade it for a good while .

With 8 Gigs you may want to look into if its worth while turning off paging.
I went from 2gb to 46b not long ago, and didnt notice any difference at all.
