Max Fans on a molex power cable.
i have an hx620W and connected to one of the power cables are 3 molex's.
On molex 1, i have 4x fans (daisy chained)
On molex 2, i have 2x fans (daisy chained)
On molex 3, i have a molex to sata which then plugs into my dvd-rw.
My question is does the volts going to each separate fan vary that much when daisy chained, like will it be running as powerful as it should be? eg, how many fans when daisy chained will then lead to a loss in power to each fan?
Shall i add an additional power cable to power some fans, or does the above setup work as it should?
Many Thanks
Re: Max Fans on a molex power cable.
you can daisy chain a lot of fans up to the max output per cable that should be in the corsair specs
considering the high output they give i doubt you could overload it in a pc case :)
Re: Max Fans on a molex power cable.
You could easily put all 6 on one molex daisy chained and never notice any difference, I suspect you would be talking about 30 before things started getting iffy. It will definately work fine as it is.

so how many watts/volts does each fan usually use, and what is the watt/volt limit per molex? or per cable from the psu..?
Re: Max Fans on a molex power cable.
depends on what it says on the fan, and your psu booklet will tell u the per channel ratings

unfortunately threw the box out years ago :(

u should find specs on there website
Re: Max Fans on a molex power cable.
The corsair hx620 provides 18A to each of the 3 rails. Most PC fans run at 0.1-0.2A. Some of the higher CFM fans run at 0.6-0.8A (my NMB 120x38mm for instance is 0.68A). DVD writers are rated at roughly 1A.
All of the above is for 12V.
Re: Max Fans on a molex power cable.
HX620 is actually a single rail unit with 50A on the +12V rail, considering how majority of 120mm fans are 0.20-0.30A that makes for many fans ;)
daisy chaining a few fans direct from the molex cables will be fine, voltage drop off will be very minor.
Although I do recall if you do this on fan controllers many will give out only around 11V or lower from the 3rd fan, but that doesn't really apply to you :)
