RAM Advice Please (Dead RAM Related)

    Hi HEXUS,

I have come across a very weird and odd problem regarding Corsair RAM, I will link you to the thread, but I just can't come up with an answer to it, and I personally think I am in a no win situation regarding it. Anyway, here is the thread.

    http://forums.hexus.net/scan-care-he...ir-memory.html

To put it short, when I sent the RAM, the RAM was faulty, it refused to work in any combination and when tested in 3 seperate motherboards (working PCs too) the RAM would refuse to work, everytime a C1 error would pop up. The guy that I paid to test the whole of my PC has many Computer Science degrees, so he knows what he is on about when it comes to PCs, I also tested the RAM as stated in the thread as I am not exactly a noob when it comes to it.

The only suggestion he has come up with is the fact that the coldness in transit and storage has revived the RAM, the problem with this, is that the RAM will in a very short space of time, die again, it can be hours, it can be a day or two, that's another problem I come up against, and if they do send it back, and now I think they will charge me for this, the RAM will, just die again, and if I do send it back once more, by the time it gets there, it might be revived "again".

This aint a rant to SCAN, SCAN are great, it's a rant to this bloody RAM, and we have discussed it, and we have basically said it is "odd".

Does anyone else have an opinion on this?

Well my only opinion is that its odd..., I would keep going with them to replace it because if it was me I would not trust it again, whos to say the coldness in the return trip isnt going to screw it over again.

    Hawker
But I cannot physically state that the RAM is dead, can I? Anyone could state "My componant was dead when I sent it to you and now it's not etc". See where I am coming from?

The only evidence I have is the guy who tested the RAM my end in three different computers (who I paid to do so), and my word.

Anyway SCAN know about this problem and a RMA guy should be in contact with me shortly (as usual they are being helpful).

Have scan been in touch with and found no faults? Maybe errors will up in the testing.

I hope they find errors in memtest when they test it today with it.

They have tested it in an Intel and AMD board, and it worked!!

Was tested in 2 Intel and 1 AMD my end, and it failed to work.

Any thermal electronic fault like this will soon return when it warms up again. If you paid this Guy to test the RAM then maybe you should send scan a copy of the receipt and the report the guy gave you?

I would not be happy for them to return it to me knowing it was faulty.

Any good electronics engineer will tell you that a hairdryer and a can of freezer spray is the only way to diagnose a thermal fault properly.

Strange! Can't you make a video of your system failing to boot, and show the RAM, with S/N in view, and send it to Scan. It might not be standard procedure but they do have good customer services so might accept it as proof. As mentioned above, try to get a test report from the guy who tested it and send that.

Indeed, if the memtest does give back no faults, I will pass on details of the guy who tested the RAM. Like Sputnik says, once it heats up, it will just die again.

    Re: Suggestions and Advice please

    Result.

I had a similar issue once with a motherboard, except that they admitted there was a fault, just didn't think it was big enough to justify replacement. To my mind supplying 2.4V to RAM when you put it to 2.2V was big enough and eventually I persuaded them to my PoV. Luckily Crucial replaced my RAM no questions asked.
