Slow cd drive

i recently brought a Pioneer DVR-216DBK 20x DVD±R, 12x DVD±DL, DVD+RW x8/-RW x6, SATA, Black, OEM

however when i copy something from a cd to my hdd, i only get 9mb/sec max.

and im sure i used to get alot more.

Any suggestions to quicken it up?

SATA drive, so have you changed controllers on your board?

it connects via the pc using sata cables..

Go into hardware properties and check that the drive is using DMA.

Also your CD might have a 'turbo' mode that means that most of the time it's actually slowed down for quietness - on my sony drive I just have to hold the eject button for 3 seconds and it then blinks and allows full speed (noisy) operation.

where do i find hardware properies on vista?

tried device manager, nothing about any advanced performance mode

Device manager -> IDE/ATA/ATAPI controllers -> primary/secondary IDE channel -> Advanced Settings

its ultra dma mode 4

Just a quick thought, what CD/DVD are you reading from?


If it is scratched etc, then it may just be the error checking slowing the performance down. Have you got another you can try?

Ye thought that too.

tried 2 different discs, discs are scratch free and of good quality

anyone know what kinda speeds i should be expecting, assuming that the hdd is idle.

Have you tried uninstalling the device in device manager, then restarting?

Otherwise have you got the instructions that came with the drive and are able to find out if it has a 'quiet' mode as mentioned above?

Got the same drive, google for 1.09 firmware. Sorts out the LED problem at least
