    Your thoughts on my upgrade.

    So the upgrade is under way, The mother board is ordered but, would like some opinions on the rest.

    so here goes.

    J & W 790GX Extreme (ordered)

    AMD Phenom II 940
    4Gb(2x2Gb) ram 800mhz (corsair,crucial,OCZ I have not decided yet)
    Dual DVB-T (Terratec Cinergy 2400i DT or Compro VideoMate E700)

    1GB Sapphire HD 3450 HM (to use in crossfire with onboard GPU)

    Your thoughts please.

    Well it looks ok, but what are you planning on doing with it? If its gaming then your going to want a lot more graphics power than that.

    What's it going in?
    All told the onboard crossfire is a nice idea in theory, on paper, but actually doesn't look that good in real life.
    if gameing you'd be better off with a single better card, if not gameing it's not needed.
    oh and 1gb of memory on a gpu that weak is also very pointless.

    A quad core won't get fully utilised on a htpc in general as you are not using multi-threaded high performance applications. Unless you will be media editing aswell
    AM3 should be out very soon which is worth consideration. AM3 processors are backwards compatible with AM2/ AM2+ mobos but AM2/AM2+ processors are not compatible with AM3 motherboards.
    The graphics card is ancient but should be good enough for your htpc plans although I would step up to a 4650 personally.

    I will drop the graphics card then and just use the onboard graphics alone.
