Kingston 6GB DDR3
I have been trying to buy either of the following Triple Channel DDR3 memory packs here in the UK for the last 2-weeks without luck:
Kingston 6GB (3x2048MB) 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC 8-8-8-24 240pin DIMM Memory Manufacturers Part Number KHX12800D3LLK3/6GX price around £200inc VAT
Kingston 6GB (3x2048MB) 2000MHz DDR3 Non-ECC 240pin DIMM Memory Manufacturers Part Number KHX16000D3ULT1K3/6GX price around £350inc VAT
1) Does anyone know where has some in stock in the UK?
2) Do you recommend I save £150 and go for the cheaper ram and spend that extra £150 on a superior graphics card? I assume a few extra mhz on the RAM won't up system performance all that much?
3) What are your opinions in terms of what is the best DDR3 RAM out there and available in the UK?
I chose the Kingston HyperX over the Corsair Dominator (which is more widely available) as I have seen both bench marked against each other and the Kingston is superior, albeit more expensive.
I have Corsair RAM at the minute, but I prefer the look of the above Kingston HyperX's for my new Core i7 system build as they have lower latencies and now have those great T1 heatsinks (helps if I overclock it) on like Corsair Dominators have had for a while. Also Corsair doesn't have a 2000mhz set to market yet (only some red ones on their own website shop which are not available yet and are much more expensive, but it does come with Corsairs nice RAM fan I suppose). Oh and finally I read somewhere that at the next CES show, which is coming soon, Kingston will show off 2133mhz DDR3 RAM again maintaining their technology lead over Corsair who seem much slower at getting the latest faster DDR3 RAM to market.
Thanks for any tips and advice you can give me
Cheers

Re: Kingston 6GB DDR3
I built a Core i7 for a Rig last month, and after a lot of research, it seems that the latencys don't seem to make that big a deal. I ended up getting a set of 'Corsair 6GB DDR3 XMS3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz (3x2GB) Triple Channel DDR3' which were dirt cheap and under £140 at the time.
I'd reccomend something along those lines, as they are punchy enough, else another £50 would spring you some OCZ 1866 sticks.

Re: Kingston 6GB DDR3
Cheers Tim & Peter,
I have been watching morecomputers and have signed up to their email warning when they get stock again, but their restock date keeps on slipping each few days.
First it was a restock by 02-02-09, then 4th, 6th, 9th, 10th and now 13-02-09. I'm not sure if its the snow or if Kingston are just slow at getting these DRR3 packs into the UK. Either way I can't find them anywhere else so I've been hanging on since January to get this Kingston RAM from them.
Other than the roundup on tomshardware is there anything else out there which tests the current 6GB DDR3 kits for Core i7 setups against each other? I am not too familiar with OCZ RAM.
Many thanks
Loz

Re: Kingston 6GB DDR3
Well looking at the tomshardware round up, the cursial ballistix looks like a good alternative
As does the Mushkin in price vs performance (but mushkin is very hard to get hold of in the uk/eu)
-
Re: Kingston 6GB DDR3
Yeah the Mushkin looked very good value indeed.
I am getting rather annoyed at having to wait to get the latest hardware in the UK when it is readily available elsewhere.
It is a shame Kingston's shop will only ship to US addresses as they seem to have stock of the 6GB 2000mhz DDR3 RAM. My other alternative would be AmazonUSA or newegg, but then one might have complications with the lifetime warranty?
Does anyone know if Kingston has a UK office?
Cheers

Re: Kingston 6GB DDR3
Morecomputers and other UK company's restocking dates keep slipping for this RAM, but finally OverclockersUK are scheduled to get some on Monday 23-02-09.........could finally my 4-weeks wait have ended?
Fingers crossed!
Now if only Hexus could review some and leave me better informed before I take the plunge!:secret:

Re: Kingston 6GB DDR3
you'd be clinically insane to spend 150 quid more on an extra 400mhz!!
go even cheaper on scan, corsair 6GB 1600mhz

Re: Kingston 6GB DDR3
I've seen that Corsair 6GB Cas8 1600mhz DDR3 cheaper at Novatech and AWD-IT who both have stock.
My thinking behind going for the 2000mhz Kingston DDR3 RAM (As opposed to the 1600mhz version; much cheaper and easy to get hold of, or the 1866mhz Corsair with fan, which is like middle ground) is I may in say 1-2 years time want to double the RAM from 6GB to 12GB and also upgrade the processor which is a Core I7 920 not overclocked all on the same motherboard (Gigabyte EX58-UD5). Furthermore some are saying online the Kingston is an even better overclocker than the Corsair 1600mhz or 1866mhz. Anyone got any thoughts or can point to some decent tests/comparison?
My second choice is the Corsair Dominator GT 2000mhz CAS8 but those are a whopping £415 from the USA which I think it a bit too steep. 6GB Kingston 2000mhz DDR3 T1 @ £310 seems reasonable in comparison no? Ok it is like double the 1600mhz Corsair RAM, but I am thinking of future proofing.
I have even read somewhere a lot are holding off on the 2000mhz RAM and waiting for Kingston to launch their 2133mhz RAM in order for 2000mhz DDR3 prices to come down. I am unsure when that will be though.
I am always happy to hear opinions and advice though as I am still a bit undecided to be honest.
Cheers

Re: Kingston 6GB DDR3
From what I have seen the higher frequency RAM brings hardly any real-world performance gain on this platform..... for that reason alone I'd go for the cheaper stuff. In 1-2 years you may be upgrading the motherboard too anyway when chipsets with USB 3.0 etc are available, so I wouldn't worry about trying to future proof too much..... 6GB RAM will be plenty for most people for a long time to come, very much doubt you'll need to go to 12GB!

Re: Kingston 6GB DDR3
Ok I think I'll probably go for some Corsair Dominator 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Triple Channel Kit for £165 and free delivery from Novatech:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...tml?CSR-6G160D
I will be saving £145 over the Kingston 6GB 2000mhz RAM then.
