Monitor Upgrade

Hi guys,

I got around £150 to spend on a new monitor.

I currently have a 19" widescreen monitor. Is it better to get another 19" or go for a 22-24"?

I mainly use my pc for gaming, and I am not sure that many games support dual monitors can anyone confirm this?

Also any recommendations fora nice monitor?

Depends on wht you are doing, imho, if you are mainly gaming i would suggest a single larger screen as iirc its mainly flight sims that support multiple monitors, i think supreme commander is one exception.

£150 should get a reasonable 22" but i would spend an extra £10-15 and get something like this

if you run XP with nVidia drivers you can make use of dual monitors in most new games.
dual monitors with FPS (shooting) games is horrible though, cos the crosshairs are placed on the borderline of the 2 monitors

I heard the LG ones are supposed to be pretty good.

My mum has the Noevo one suprisingly, although she doesnt game

I do run Nvidia on XP but I suspect one bigger screen is probably going to be the way forward

I also like the look of the LG W2252TE at ebuyer, but also have a fancy for the Samsung T200 (looks nice when its off!). Its only a 20" but hey size isn't everything.



Theres's lots of +ve feedback on the LG from the ebuyers but not much on the Samsung. Has anyone seen it in action?

Always go for the best one you can, you generally keep a monitor longer than most other PC bits so think longer term. Go for a 22" minimum, when you buy that powerful graphics card in the future you will be glad you did.

I went with a 22" hanns-g. I had one of their first monitors the 19" one and it never gave me any problems and its been the same with this one. No dead pixels, nice image and it did not cost me the earth.

Aren't all 22"s stretched 20"s? Don't they all use cheap TN panels? I thought 24" was the minimum for a decent monitor. The only trouble is the increased cost.

Not all now, you can get 16x9 22" (1920x1080) for £150-200. The key thing is the OP is talking about £150 budget so a 24" (or non-TN panel) is not really an option. Also I'd still rather game on a 22" vs 20" at same resolution (1650x1080).

Yeah I did look at the 24" and there doesnt seem to be as good a selection of deals available when compared with the 22" and the price does come into it unfortunately.

Another issue is desk space so I will stick with the 22" for now, although you did have me a little worried

Going back to the op, depends what games you play.
If you're into MMOs dual monitors is very nice, however you don't get two the same size or play across both, you have a large main and a smaller secondary which you can run other things on, eg your messenger of choise, internet browser, team speak window, game guides and maps.
That said I know people who do the same thing with fps games as well.

All told you're looking at a lower end 20" or 22" I'd not discount some of the cheaper brands as most warranties are the same, 3year onsite swap out is "almost" standard for all monitors now.
Strangly enough it's a couple of the bigger brands who still only offer return to base warranties on there cheaper monitors, so double check before you buy.

If you decide to use both you may run into the issue of space, a 22" widescreen and a 19" widescreen will take up quite a bit of deskspace.
Although you could also buy on of the cheap clamp on monitor arms, and have the 19" rotated through 90 degrees.
