    RAID setup issue

Hello, I plugged my 2x 500gb WD hdd's into the Speeding HDD 1 and 2 slots on my Asus Maximus II Formula Mobo, unknowingly that whilst installing my OS for the first time, that it was doing so onto a RAID configuration...

Is there any way to take my drives out of raid?

I tried plugging them into different sata slots on the mobo, but now when I boot up it says "Hard Drive not found!" on the black dos screen, which seems like an unimportant message since my computer boots up fine aside from that screen showing up for one second... and it appears that they are in a performance raid setup...

    Thanks in advance

Can you take a photograph of the BIOS output that reports "Hard Drive not found"?.. Just upload it to omploader.org or something. I'll check over the motherboards manual.

I don't have access to good photos, just a webcam that isnt currently hooked up...

I have both hdd's hooked up to the same bracket...

There's three "terminals" each with two SATA inputs.... I have my disc in Sata 1 and my HDD's in others

    Re: RAID setup issue

I dont think youll be getting them out of RAID without reinstalling the OS as it will have installed across them both, is there a reason you dont want to use raid now that its working?

Well I just planned to have two separate drives... but you're right, now that it's stuck here I guess I'll make the most out of it...

Performance setup maybe will make things install faster, I dont know... maybe its a good thing, lol

What's the benefit of having it in a performance raid setup

Twice the disk throughput. Or close enough.

If you want some drive separation you could partition the drive using computer management and shrink your volume, but I would stick with the RAID overall since its there and working

If you have twice the capacity of one of the drives, then you are in RAID0 and if one drive fails, you will lose everything.

I have never had a HDD "fail" on me before... so I don't think it will happen? What would make it fail?

I don't have "twice the capacity", if by capacity you mean space...

I have 2x 500gb western digital HDD's... and only 500gb space on my C:\ drive.... they're in the performance raid setting... the one that loses everything if one fails...

There's even another option, which is motherboard specific... that my mobo gives... which is like an extreme performance setting, but I would have to re-format in order to activate that... I think that would be overkill, and since its all working nicely, I think I will leave it alone...

I've got everything backed up on an external HDD so if anything did happen I can replace it quite quickly and easily.

    Thanks
