Re: Silent keyboard quest
^ LOL :D
My old Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 4000 is fairly quiet (not that it was something I was particularly interested in). It certainly doesn't have a 'click' to it, more of the noise when the key hits the bottom, which is less irritating. It's quiet, but not silent.
It's sat in a draw now as though it was a great keyboard, it's just a bit too large for my rather small desk.

For a quiet or almost silent wireless keyboard i'm going to suggest a wireless Mac keyboard!
Fairly pricey as always with Apple but small and neat, works with XP and Vista (I have one working with Vista) and is definitely quiet. Some of the symbol keys are labelled wrongly for Windows but it's not too bad, unless you're incredibly fussy or have to look at the keyboard all the time to see what you're typing :)
Re: Silent keyboard quest
Thank you all for your suggestions so far but unfortunately none of them included an ergonomic keyboard.
Both the bluetooth one and the apple one are have the typical rigid square setup of keys, which is kind of unatural compared to how your palms are placed. Therefore I am still continuing my quest for an ergonomic one!
Re: Silent keyboard quest
gav recommended the ergonomic 4000
I have it too (although I don't use it at the moment as it's quite huge), I'm pretty sure mine is kind of clicky, although it's soooo comfortable.

The problem is that it's not cordless :(

There is however a wireless version :D
Edit: However its not split down the middle for some reasn but shares the same model number.
EDIT:
Sorry its called the 7000 series as it comes with a mouse to, but it's damn pricey.

You could be lucky and find a place that will sell the keyboard on it's own as OEM.
Re: Silent keyboard quest
MS desktop 6000. Wireless, curvey, £38.

Or Logitech comfort cordless:

Neither are absolutely silent, but I don't think they're clattery
edit: maybe cordless wave? £40

I don't think there is a standard noise for logitech keyboards - I've used ones that were quiet and ones that were noisy.
Re: Silent keyboard quest
Or the MS 7000 a bit pricier though

As for the MS 7000 that most others suggest, I mentioned it in the beginning that it was suggested to me but it's damn expensive!!
I'll try to go somewhere where I can see the actual keybs and test them before purchasing. I'm afraid I'll end up with a no-split-in-the-middle one in the end though :(
Re: Silent keyboard quest
I finally opted for the Microsoft entertainment 7000. I got it off ebay for a nice 38£ (!!). Brand new as well and is sleeeek!
It is silent, well as silent as a laptop's keyboard which was what I was after. It is very sic and sleek looking on my desk, lots of nice buttons as well. Only thing missing is a numerical keyboard but that's not much of a worry at the moment.
Conclusion: Pleased and I suggest it to anyone else who wants a fairly silent keyboard and mouse wireless (in fact bluetooth) combo.
cheers
