    Re: HDD acoustics

there are screws that have a rubber/silicone washer that dampens the noise.

otherwise there are rail slips that fit snuggly into the drive bay holding the hdd. most of the time it shouldnt be loud, there may be resonance in the case that makes it seem that way. Check whether there is any difference in sound when you are putting a little bit of pressure to parts of the case. If so a new case may be a better option.

    Unplug the power connector?

Seriously, some drives have aan acoustic setting (normally settable via the mfrs diagnostic ssoftware that you can download. However setting that may cause a performance penalty. If you do install soundproofing, think about additional cooling. If the sound is transmitted through the case, resilient mounting will help, if it is a noisy drive, with the sound being airborne directly from the drive, acoustic insulation may be the only option, or setting a quiet mode using the mfr software.
