Wireless Keyboard/Mouse

I already have an MS Intellimouse Explorer which is rather neat, and am considering buying a wireless keyboard, however most of the decent ones I find are bundled with a mouse (which I don't need.)

In order to make up my mind about what to do I thought I'd ask a few questions here, as I'm new to this whole wireless thing. So here goes:

1) If I got a wireless keyboard/mouse combo that just uses one receiver, could I carry on using my Intellimouse with it and just keep whatever mouse I happen to get as a backup?

2) If I eventually find a decent wireless keyboard on it's own, will I be able to use it's receiver for my Intellimouse, or use the Intellimouse receiver for it?

3) In order to use just one receiver for 2 devices, would they have to be of the same brand, or is there actually a standard set?

4) Do you know of a good quality wireless keyboard that doesn't have loads of useless buttons all over it (Internet, Mail, Word, My Documents, My Porn Archive) as I really don't like them. For that matter I hate 'natural' keyboards too. So, any nice keyboards?

How slow are wireless mice compared to wired mice?

I've not been playing many games recently, apart from WC3 and NOLF2, but I can't honestly say I've noticed any difference in speed whatsoever. Another thing; I can't begin to describe how annoying it is to go back to using a wired mouse and have to drag that cable around with you. Ugh. Wireless rocks

firstly, yeah wireless rocks, my wireless mouse is no slower than a wired one at all. The only difference is that its heavy (due to batteries), and that takes alot of gettinused to. but when you are its great

ahri - afaik all MS mice/KBs will work with any of their recievers that can do devices - eg a wireless optical desktop so you shouldnt have any problems with option 1

as for #2 that depends on the the reciever, as some can only cope with 1 device so you will have to check the tech specs

#3 again depends on the model of reciever, but i would play it safe and only use M$ recievers with M$ stuff and logitech revievers iwth logitech stuff etc etc

#4 no =) However if you want a decent wireless KB i suggest getting the M$ wireless optical desktop, its onlay about £30 now ( i got mine from dabs) and the keybaord you get is excellent, nice response and layout. It does have buttons on the top but you dont have to use them do you? Also comes with a rather stylish mouse

No real diff, so long as it's blootoof or radio frequency. Infra red though, has pretty much died out already.
