    Budget Pc for my bro!

I'm Going to build a budget gaming PC for my brother, I put this together quickly earlier

    Coolermaster Elite 330 460W PSU
    Sony DVD Drive
    250gb seagate
    2gb OCZ DDR2
    Asus P5KPL IG31
    Intel E5200
    ATI 4670
    Vista Basic

That comes to about £350 and is really a maxed out budget.

Is that pretty solid Build or am i missing out somewhere? Thanks.

Re: Budget Pc for my bro!

That seems pretty reasonable, I would probably buy AMD for the budget, get a nice 740G board and a 7750 X2. Same sort of price.

I don't like seagate either but thats a minor niggle and down to personal preference.

I'd try and stretch to Home Premium Vista as basic is really pointless.

Also the Coolermaster elite 340 and same PSU is £55ish on scan if that is any good.

Re: Budget Pc for my bro!

thanks for the advice mike. Not too aware of AMD's slightly older products

The only thing about the OS is that Vista is taking such a large amount of already small budget.

Is there anywhere that has a special offer or anyway of getting Vista cheap? Thanks.

    Just found this http://www.spotonuk.com/operating-en...g-00660_79185/

is that legit? it seems very cheap

Re: Budget Pc for my bro!

I wouldn't go for the 340 (it's quite small) or the 330 with the bundled PSU.

    Scan

    Silverstone 350W ST35F 120mm 80plus - £27.49 (may be cheaper if on Today Only)

Coolermaster Elite 335 Black Mini Tower - £28.97
    Coolermaster RC-331 Elite Black/Silver Midi Tower Case w/o PSU - £28.51
Coolermaster RC-330 V2 Elite Black Midi Tower Case w/o PSU (New Improved Version) Scan Exclusive - £27.93

    Ebuyer have similar Coolermaster cases.

Re: Budget Pc for my bro!

TBH the extra features that Vista Premium have over Vista Basic are not worth the extra £20 or so IMHO.

If you are not overclocking the AMD X2 7750+ is a better choice together with a 780V motherboard.

Here is a rough cost breakdown:

    AMD X2 7750 ~£56

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/AMD-A...B-Cache-Retail

    2gb RAM~£21

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/114728

    780V motherboard ~£50

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/148368

    HD4670 ~ £59

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/152940

    DVD Drive ~ £15

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=964633

    400w Silverpower PSU ~£35

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/400w-...2V-6Serial-ATA

The PSU is made by Tagan

    160gb hard disk ~£31

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/122660

    Coolermaster case ~ £28

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Coole...Scan-Exclusive

The case has one 120mm fan already.

The total comes to around £300.

If the link yu gave for the OS is genuine this should keep the build cost to around £350.

Remember you can get free postage from Scan if you are a Hexus member with 20+ useful posts and that many items will be on daily special offers on the Today Only webpage on the Scan website. Ebuyer also do free postage for orders over £49.99!

Re: Budget Pc for my bro!

I built my dad a core 2 duo system not so long back, the cost came to £270. It was doable then and I imagine even more so now as prices have dropped.

This is a similar spec and would be ideal:

    Intel E5200 52.71
    MSI P31 Neo-F £41.78
    OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 -£17
    HD4670 £59
    OCZ StealthXStream 500w Silent £40
    Optical drive 18
    Akasa Zen - £20

Looking at around the £270 mark there. These prices were obtained from Scan UK and ebuyer. Easily attainable and gives the option of overclocking nicely too.
