20gb, but thats excluding my files which is always on the boot drive and changing it is a hassle for me.
Still going to hold out until these SSD's get bigger and cheaper. PC boots up in less than a minute and loading programs doesn't take long.

Re: How much space does your OS/Boot drive take up?

yeah I've allocated about 25Gb for my system partition just to be on the safe side with any future service packs for XP and any other "system files". Plus a little bit of space doesn't hurt when you're defragging it.
I see, said the blind man to his deaf wife as he stuck his wooden leg out of the door to feel if it was raining.

Re: How much space does your OS/Boot drive take up?

    on my work laptop:

    C:\Windows\ ~ 8GB
    C:\Program Files\ ~ 9.25 GB

And all this when I only installed XP about 5 months ago (in place of the dreaded Vista Business). So I guess a 32GB might just do me if I kept a close eye on it and made sure I kept all my data & games on a different drive, but what are the chances I'll remember to do that

Although since were on the topic a thought occurred to me a while ago: I believe SSDs have a set number of rewrite operations you can carry out on each cell, so does that mean keeping your swapfile / pagefile on an SSD is a bad idea?

Re: How much space does your OS/Boot drive take up?

    Code:
    root@miranda:~# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/sda6 9.3G 953M 7.9G 11% /
    /dev/sda5 464M 24M 416M 6% /boot
    /dev/sda8 14G 4.8G 8.5G 37% /usr
Linux users have been able to boot from SSD for years. I have heard of people who have used 256Mb SD cards as boot drives for mini ITX systems.

Sang is there is the files:
    Code:
    /dev/sda13 376G 155G 203G 44% /home
    /dev/sdb3 890G 871G 19G 98% /samsung
