    Water cooling help please

    Hello,

I currently have the old gamers choice setup:

    Antec900
    Q6600 G0 Stepping
    IP34 Pro
    8800GTS 512
    4GB OCZ Reapers

I've been running this now for just under a year (OC'd) and I'm looking to upgrade. When I say upgrade I don't want to upgrade the components as I'm more than happy with what it can handle, mostly EVE and CoD4/5 on high. I've just got myself a nice 24" Samsung monitor (cant remember model) and I'm looking at a Blueray player next month.

The upgrade I'm looking for is trying to make this machine silent as possible without too much cost, as in sub £100 (lower if possible, credit crunch and all that!). So I can enjoy gaming and movies more. Is it possible to create a water cooled machine that will silent it for a low cost??

I've been looking around and I really don't know where to start tbh, can someone point me in the right direction and give me some advice on all what I need?

    Thank you

    You want a silent set-up....hmmmm

From your post I doubt you really want to go down the watercooled road. TBH it is alot of hassle and has limited benefit. (yes done well will deliver excellent performance and noise reduction, but for sub £100 not so sure)

    I think you would appreciate

    * a better case (The 900 is good, so not in your case pardon the pun)
    * modular high efficiency PSU (more silent better for the future upgrade)
    * Upgrade internal fans - noctua are good but expensive

have a look at the Hexus tv link this will help.....

that way when you upgrade in the future you have a good system base to start with....

    Re: Water cooling help please

I've been looking into watercooling recently, and even a basic kit to watercool *just* the CPU is going to set you back somewhere around £70 - £80 once you've included all the necessary parts!

If you're set on water and silence then you'll need at minimum a CPU block, GPU block, pump, reservoir (you can get res with built in pump), and a radiator: each of these components will cost you *at least* £20 (the GPU block probably quite a bit more). Then you will also need a selection of connectors, fittings and tubes to carry the water around the system, fans to draw air across the radiator (yes, most water cooling systems require fans!), and an appropriate coolant additive to prevent corrosion / algae build up.

As mat-ster said, you're probably better off looking at your internal fans. If you are using stock cooling on your CPU and GPU then I'd start by investing in some aftermarket coolers for those. Also look at your case fans: presumably they're the standard Antec trispeeds - try running them at their lowest speed and monitor your system temps to see if it can stand that. If so then you could even try turning off some case fans. If you need the airflow in the case look into some decent replacement fans - I'm afraid I can't really advise you there but as always google is your friend! I've heard good things about the Enermax Twister series in terms of both airflow and noise, but I don't have any myself.
