Just had a thought about this. Is anyone interesting in assembling a complete and fully comprehensive guide to assembling your own PC. This would cover ALL areas from component selection - what use the PC will have, what is important (performance / noise / efficiency), how to work to a budget, what points to consider in every component you buy.
For example:
Processor:
* Stock performance
* Overclockability (new word )
* Price
* Power consumption (and hence noise implication)
* Efficiency (performance/Watt)
Case:
* Looks
* Size
* Weight
* Accessibility (screw-less fittings etc)
* Internal room
* Supplied fans
* Room for additional fans
* Modability (new word )
* Supplied adapter plates
* Build quality
* Front input panel options
You get the idea. When we've covered all these areas and supplied 2 or 3 recommended products we can then do an illustrated guide of EVERY step of assembling the PC. I'm talking about how to apply thermal paste, how to mount the CPU cooler to the motherboard. Best practice methods to show the easiest and most stress free way of doing everything. This could be a community project with people supplying parts for the guide, based on different hard configurations. For example, same section with two examples, one for AMD and the other for Intel setups.
If there's interest in contributing towards this project I'll draw up a list of all the sections that need to be covered.
