How are Q6600 these days? Still good clockers or have AMD somehow tightened the binning process?

The Q6600 are undoubtedly going down in history as an excellent over-clocker and just generally good CPU!

AMD's latest Phenom's are up and coming for price value against performance but Intel's Quads, especially the Q6600, are legendarily good; mine runs quite happily at 3GHz on air and would go further as I know other's have got theirs further, but I've not had the demand for more power yet.

I think my next system will either be an Extreme Quad or an i7, haven't decided yet, but still very pleased with my Q6600!!

However I seen a few people saying the current new q6600 are not overclocking so well.

I think intel may of been bining the old q6600, with the good overclockers going to retail and the less good ones going to OEM system builds as they tend to have no overclocking facilities anyway.
However now many OEM are moveing over to other q2d cpu's so more of the weaker cpu's are going to retail.
Well that's my guess.

I seem to remember that the original e4xxx and e6xxx came out at the same time, or at least the e4xxx very shortly after the e6xxx

All of the c2d series have been good overclockers, the quads tended to be less so as they are just 2 c2d cpu's jamed onto one substrate (same as intel did with the original pentium D), so they hit heat build up faster.

Well, I've not had any trouble so far with my Q6600 and its overclocking capabilities; but you could be right as it was this time last year that I bought mine and so I don't know what the latest ones are overclocking like.

I've got an aging 6320 which runs at 1.8GHz. Overclocked to 3.2GHz no problem. IIRC the 3GHz Core2Duo was about 4 times the price of the 1.8GHz when I bought it, so it was a no brainer.

The 6000 series were soon replaced by the 4000 series though, not that I think there were any great differences between the two.

My Q6600 GO runs 24/7 @ 3.6ghz and will bench @ 3.9ghz on water.

Ditto, I run mine at 3.6 @ 1.375v, it'll run at 3.8/2.9 but the temps get much higher, never managed to get 4Ghz into windows. Great chip and it's held it's value for over 12 months now
If I were building another system now I'd still got for this (i7 still too expensive).

Yep i feel the same re i7 and my chip is just like yours. 4Ghz is a no no

Yeah I'd agree with that, I would like to go i7 but besides them being still too expensive the other components like the motherboard and RAM are still too expensive at the minute although the RAM has begun to drop though quite significantly recently.

iv been overclocking my Q6600 and its at 3.6 atm... not quite overnight orthos stable yet i need to fiddle with the voltages but i still got though a 3Dmark run with my GPU also overclocked and got 17500 points

Phenom II are competitive, but a cheap Q6600 is almost as good clock for clock than the 940 for alot cheaper.
