Re: Samsung F1 vs WD AAKS
Sadly I think that's faster than my 74Gb Raptor. I want it back now :(
Then again I'd miss the huge amount of noise the raptor makes on boot....

Re: Samsung F1 vs WD AAKS
I used to love Barracuda's but I got scared off by so many other people with failures :(
This F1 is mighty fast tbh.
Mad.. can you do the LONG test for me too? That one of yours looks like the quck test.
Re: Samsung F1 vs WD AAKS
Real life isn't so clear cut in speed terms.
Perfect Replica of CoD World and War on both drives. Nothing else on either, both freshly dropped there, and defragged once (not that they needed it, the file drop was clean in both cases)
Boot up game in Single Player, and then choose Solo and then choose Mission Select, then choosing the same mission, time the boot time from the moment I chose the Hardness Level (always the same) to the moment the "Click any Key to Continue" message comes up.
First time you load a level it's aways slower, and then 3 more for averages
Samsung F1:
Semper Fi Level: First time 22 seconds, thereafter always 16.5 give or a take a few tenths.
WD AAKS:
Semper Fi Level: First time 22 seconds and thereafter always 16. something...
Near identical real world perfomance.
Ring of Steel Mission:
F1: First time 28 seconds,
AAKS: First time 28 seconds.
So in actual fact, so far in game level load times, not a lot faster tbh.
Still, nice drive.

of course I'm spot on.... I love hard drives... they make me all.... moist.
Re: Samsung F1 vs WD AAKS
right second drive is running, only have the seagate as i pulled a iomega usb apart cause they were selling it for £78 in staples and i needed storage fast before the lan, id have gone for a wd green in a perfect world
Re: Samsung F1 vs WD AAKS
while we wait patiently for Mad's benchy...
I've just had one of those "one off" moments.
The F1 has just loaded a CoD5 level, fresh, not played for days, in under 14 seconds! The AAKS, which I tried immediately afterwards to compare, in case it was a small level, took 19 seconds.
Must have had the read head poised and ready in a lucky spot ;)

Samsung 1TB Drive.
using it as my OS drive aswell though
Re: Samsung F1 vs WD AAKS
ill test my 250aaks and 640aaks, you must remember though that samsung use 320gb(or 500?) platters hence why it wins against your 400akks as that has much smaller platters. Ill upload some results in a bit.

That AAKS is good for Random Access... it's why I like AAKS drives tbh. My 400 gig is the least good tbh. The 320 and 500 seem best.

Tbh, while I'm inerested in the platter count, I'd say this 750 gig drive has 100 of them in there, cos it weighs a ton ;)

yup random access is truly poo, sustained is sexy, its in a home server, so apart from its own internal fumblings its locked at either 802.11N or 22Mbit broadband, so im happy
