Hi all,
Some of you may recognize my name because i've bought something off you for this build. I have in fact got almost everything for this rig from the treasure trove that is Hexus classifieds.
To begin at the beginning, my housemate had an old rig built by another mate (Athlon 64 3200+, 1Gb DDR, 6600GT) and decided it was time for an upgrade. I thought it was time for me to try what i'd been contemplating for a while - a second hand build. He's going to be mostly using office, browsing, media, some music editing, maybe light gaming, so middle of the road is fine. We also wanted it to be quiet.
Here's a list of the components I assembled. All 2nd hand unless otherwise stated:
Fatal1ty Abit FP-IN9 SLI motherboard
Tagan EasyCon 580W Modular PSU
Intel Core2Duo E6600 CPU
Zalman NPS9700-NT CPU Cooler
4Gb GSkill 5-5-5-15 DDR2 RAM
Geforce 8600 GT 512Mb GPU
Zalman VF1000 LED GPU Cooler
X-Fi Xtreme Music
2 x Western Digital 250Gb HDDs (from old rig)
Coolermaster Centurion 532 Case (Scan Today Only)
And one additional SilenX 120mm Case Fan (from my spares box)
I've just finished putting it all together, haven't fired it up yet, but I will be doing so next week. All in it's cost just under £230, which i'm quite happy with - we'll see how it goes when it's running though!
So, it can be done, with a little patience and help from the lovely people at Hexus
