    Lapping

    I need to buy:
    o 400 Grit Super Fine Wet/Dry
    o 600 Grit Ultra Fine Wet/Dry
    o 800 Grit Ultra Fine Wet/Dry
    o 1000 Grit Ultra Fine Wet/Dry
    o 1500 Grit Mirror Fine Wet/Dry
    o 2000 Grit Mirror Fine Wet/Dry

Hopefully one of each to keep costs down but I'm not sure where to buy from, any suggestions?

I mean a small car accessories shop. My local one sells every single grade, Although I'm not sure you would need all those grades. suppose it depends how bad the finish is to start with.

    Re: Lapping

You dont really get grades past 1500 that easily. I got a wet and dry kit that went uptio 1200. Didnt see much past that.

    Re: Lapping

2000grit! 1500 is more than enough. after that if your really particular you might as well get a burnisher that compresses all the fineness down to a polish.

halfords is a good bet, but look online for woodwork and tools shope, of the top of my head i got a 100 sheet pack of various grade for a fiver from CSM. i think that was upto 1200grit.

    Re: Lapping

I went to a local builders supply shop cost about 50p+vat per sheet

    I got the following
    2 sheets 400 (I wanted 600 but they didn't have any)
    3 sheets 800
    3 sheets 1200

Lapped cpu and cooler, I still have left
    1 Sheet 400
    1 1/2 Sheets 800
    1 sheet 1200

The finner the grit the quicker it gumms up, not mirror smooth but very smooth none the less and once dry the cpu and cooler will slightly stick.
If you take the time to get them very smooth/mirrored you can lift up the cpu with the cooler dry.
