    Gaming Laptop

Ah haven't posted on here for so long, feels good to be back

I am starting to look at getting a laptop which i would like to be able to play games quite nicely, however I am not really up to date or sure of the components in a laptop, i.e. the top of the range and bottom of the range hardware. I have built numerous computers last year but i have never looked into a laptop so im not really sure what good graphics cards are for a laptop and what the good processors are. I'm fine with memory etc. since that isn't really that dramatically different compared to desktop hardware. Also who are the good brands for gaming laptops or who makes good ones? Company wise.

    Thanks guys

I hope you are aware of the new ATI mobility graphics card which have come out recently!!

There is the mobility HD4850 and HD4870 which are the same as the desktop versions but with reduced clockspeeds.

There is also the mobility HD4830 and HD4860 which use the new 640 shader 40nm RV740 core. The former uses GDDR3 RAM and the latter GDDR5 RAM IIRC!!

Here is a review of a notebook with a mobility HD4850:

I would say the netbook and gaming rig combo is always better, netbook will play quake and gaming rig for anything else. Gaming laptops need to be teathered anyways, so a SFF is almost a better bet with a rugged screen for a backpack?

    Re: Gaming Laptop

I would go with an SFF gaming computer and a lightweight notebook too but the OP already has a decent gaming PC. Perhaps he/she needs a gaming notebook for some other reason(portability??).

    Re: Gaming Laptop

Yeah, the main point of this laptop is for portability, there have been numerous times when i would like to play my games but strapping my rig to my back hasn't ever been an option.
