Is the Q6600 G0 still the one?
Hi all,
As you will be able to see from my system spec on the left, I have an Abit IP35-Pro motherboard (which I'm rather fond of), and an E6600 Core2 plugged into it.
I have it running comfortably at 3.0ghz, although have had it running stably at 3.3ghz on air cooling (using the AC Freezer 7).
I'd like to upgrade the CPU - is it still worth going for the G0 Q6600?

£144 on Scan for the OEM, so still holding its price well. For a similar price, would one of the Yorkfield Quad's be a better investment (like the 8200 or 8300), or perhaps an E8500 Duo?
Opinions/advice/insults/the usual appreciated.
TIA.
Mut.

Hi Mutley, there has been discussion about this recently see here
Q6600 gives you a bit of future proofing

The newer Q6600 processors have a higher VID and are not as good overclockers as the older ones(I have one of the newer Q6600 processors).
The only problem with the newer Q8*** quads are their lower multipliers meaning that you will need a higher FSB to overclock them with.
