Difference between SATA 150 and SATA 300 cable?

    Hi,

Just wondering if there is an actual difference between SATA cables? i have quite a few cables left that came with the mobos from when SATA 150 was prime. Just wondered if they were same. Is there such thing as a SATA 300 cable?

    Thanks

Re: Difference between SATA 150 and SATA 300 cable?

As far as Im aware a SATA cable is a SATA cable and theres no difference between the early versions and the newer ones, all the differences are in the bus and the drives.

    Hope that helps.

Cable marketing! Always a good idea to buy good quality cables if you can, but thats so that they last, use good quality connectors and so on.

No difference at all. Do yourself a favour and buy some right angled ones with latches!

The cables are exactly the same, It's just the drives themselves that are different speed. As above, get one's with latches if you can, they secure in nicely

SATA-300 or SATA-2 standard has secure clips to hold onto the motherboard and HDD slots, SATA-1/150 cables don't.

Otherwise for all SATA HDDs and most SSDs a normal SATA-150 cable will suffice

the ones with latches are great but its a bit of a tight fit for my striker extreme. bit worried that the sata slot might snap

I've had that happen, the hdd part stayed permanently attached to the cable, nothing that a bit of blu tack would not cure though, looked messy.

Amazing what ideas these marketing companies come up with these days to make their product sound superior.
