Re: dell d600 dead?
What about without the battery?
If it's still the same then from experience it's normally a fluffed motherboard or processor. Mobo is most likely, but like Compaq, dell engineers can often be a little bit too liberal with thermal paste appliance (I've seen it covering an inch of surrounding components in both Dells and Compaq laptops before now :)

most likely a dead motherboard

Re: dell d600 dead?
I concur. Time to crack it open (fairly easy on Latitudes) and check the processor installation, memory installation and then look at a dead mobo :(

Re: dell d600 dead?
have you stripped it trying to remove it ?
dells are normally easy to get into :\
for the sake of one screw, drill the head off.

Re: dell d600 dead?
May be an idiot question, but is the Inspiron power lead the same as the Latitude? I've used a few Dells and they don't all have the same lead. Normally if it fits it works, but is it a real fit?

Re: dell d600 dead?
I've had this problem with laptops when the little standby switch under the screen sticks down and stops the system booting.
