    GeIL Vs. OCZ

i was contemplating getting a single stick of ocz pc3200 512mb ram for around £85 from pc-memory-upgrade.co.uk when i saw this...

    GeIL 512MB PC3200 Golden Dragon CAS2 (GD3200-512) over on:

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/GeIL_memory.html

the total price comes to £82.77 inc. VAT and p&p

I would highly recommend Geil (pronounced gayl). I have x2 GeIL 512MB PC4000 Ultra Platinum running @ 520mhz & 2.5,4,4,7 (and with 2.75volts, mb cant give any more )
When u consider bang for buck, geil r great. And they run memtest error free for 8hours+.
Just a word of warning however, I have heard of some incompatibility with some mb's and golden dragon, you may want to check your mb's manufacturers website (like abit.com or asus.com etc)
    C2Q6600 @ 3.15GHz
    ThermalTake MiniType90
    EVGA 680SLI
    4GB OCZ Reaper 1066MHz @ 1000 4,4,4,15
    EVGA 8800GTX 768MB
    Raptor 150GB
    NEC ND4550 16x16 DVD±RW
    Coolermaster 850W x3 12V
    Antec P180

Golden dragon does somtimes have issues with certain motherboards.
I have OCZ in my system at the moment, and previously Geil. Had no problems with it what so ever, and clocked nicely to. It wasnt golden dragon though.

Ive noticed a lot of the OCZ crew like to put down Geil no end, but while OCZ may be better, yes, Geil is still very good

ive heard bad things about geil, but then again, IMO the speed of your RAM isn't necessarily as important as the amount you have.

myself and my next door neighbour have very similar pcs. his is a amd 3200+, 1gb OCZ PLATINUM (cost around £250!), twin IDE drives.

you can hardly tell the differences when we play UT2004, he compiles stuff on gentoo in around the same time. yet his RAM was a good £100 more than mine.

all i'm saying is that for the majority, if it works, it works. and you're only really ever going to notice when premiere screams at you for not having enough RAM.

i've got twinmos, and had to RMA it as soon as it came. but since then its been fine - go figure...
