    rampage ii extreme build

looking at upgrading the q6600 and striker extreme as there both a bit long in the tooth now, i have been looking at the rampage 2 extreme and the i7 920 to go in it with full water cooling on the board and cpu.

toss in a 6gb corsair dominator 1600mhz kit and i should be good to go ?

anyone got a reason why this combo wont work and overclock its arse off with a bit of trial and error ?

That will work fine, although 12GB requires some tinkering with the timings for it to work.

hate the brand with a passion, and EK dont do custom blocks for the chipset and mofsets like the rather nice full cover sb/nb blocks and mofset blocks

That's fair enough then, the rampage 2 is still a great board anyway

sticking with 6gb for now, will cross the 12gb bridge when i need it

will be dual booting xp 32 bit and win7 until 7 is out of beta so half the time half the ram will be in use anyway lol

    Re: rampage ii extreme build

Yeah, 6GB will be fine for atleast the next year I reckon.

If you haven't already sorted a block for it, I know somebody who was one for £40, unused, if you want

    It's 4.98*

    Re: rampage ii extreme build

on 2nd thoughts i just found out it does not allow cooling of the dram unit, im going to look into the koolance kit as that cools the dram and you can buy a add on WC block to replace the heatsink and fan as well. look slike im going to have to get a friend to import it for me but it looks like the better option $$$
