Smile £550 To Spend...What Would You Go For.

OK I have £550 to spend on a base unit and I would like some ideas on what people would go for.

Preferebly Quad core CPU (Something like Q6600)

Decent graphics card (I will be running GTA 4)

Nice looking case with good airflow...I will be overclocking

Don't need to buy an OS as I already have Vista.

Re: £550 To Spend...What Would You Go For.

What resolution are you gaming at??

This is what I would go for:

Phenom II X3 720 triple core as this is a good overclocker ~ £124

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...html?AMD-P2720

    Asus 780G-EM motherboard ~ £73

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/150278

    4gb DDR2 RAM ~ £30 to £35

    http://www.ebuyer.com/search?page=1&...2052&ca630=4GB

    http://www.scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/Index.aspx

    HD4870 512mb ~ £145 to £150

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s....html?SAP-4870

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s....html?POW-4870

    GTX260 192 shader version ~ £135

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/146007

    640gb Samsung Hard drive ~ £50

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/158688

    OCZ 500w ~ £46

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/135159

This gives you around £70 to £80 to buy a case of your choice and a DVD writer.

If you have 20+ useful post on Hexus you can get free postage from Scan. Also check the Scan Today only webpage for more offers each day(apart from weekends when they the same offer runs for the duration of the weekend). With a GTX260 or HD4870 you should be able to max out most current games at 1680X1050. The HD4870 is slightly ahead of the older 192 shader GTX260. The Phenom II X3 720 is a good overclocker too and has an unlocked multiplier. You may need to factor in an aftermarket heatsink though.

Yeah I have looked at the Arctic Freezer 64 PRO.

With that HSF what clock do you think I could get up to?

Same as a 9800GTX really. Still ideal for your resolutions but will show its age sooner than the perviously mentioned cards.

Freezer Pro's are OK but you can get better cooling and quieter opeperating one's, I'd a bit of a scythe fanboi but theres are expensive.
