    File sharing/syncing between laptop & compter

    Iv recently bought myself a studio 17, for working away from home. Iv started to get a bit tired of using a memory stick to transfer files back & forth across between the two computers (films, documents etc).

    As a result iv been looking at connecting them via the wi-fi/home network. Theres 5 of us on the network and id rather not have my computer's open to everyone. So whatever i do id like it to be locked to my computer & laptop.

    Iv searched online and had a gd look through the settings on both computers but iv so far only managed to confuse myself. As a result i was hopign hexus might be able to shine some light on the subject!

    I would like to;

    - Sync my documents, so work & pictures get synced across both computers when i log onto the network.

    - View films on my laptop that are on my PC, so stream them on the wi-fi.

    - And finally, would i be able to control each device from the opposing device? For example, drag my mouse accross the edge of the screen of my computer & it moves onto the laptop, and vice versa with laptop -> PC.

    My laptop is running Windows 7, and my PC Vista 64vbit, connected via a BskyB wireless router. Pc is hard-wired, laptop is wireless.

    I know its a lot to ask, and some of it might not be possible but thanks for any advice in advance guys!

    edit; My apologies, posted in wrong forum. If this can be moved to the Networking forum that'd be great, thanks!

    1) Windows Live Sync
    2) Use administrative share, like \\desktoppc\C$\Download (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Administrative_share)
    3) Not quite there, but you can just remote desktop / VNC onto the other device. Vista to Win7 is fine, Win7 to Vista requires either Business or Ultimate edition for remote desktop. No restriction for VNC though.

    Re: File sharing/syncing between laptop & compter

    Figured this would be easier then this!

    As far as i can tell, both computers are on the network and are open to share files. However, when i go into my network (on vista) and double click on the laptop's name, it asks me for a username and password. What is it asking for? - i don't have a login requirement for this PC & i haven't set up any user accounts.password locks on the PC.

    I don't spose you could elaborate slight on 1 & 2 could you, arthurleung?

    thanks

    edit;

    So far iv managed to find my PC on my laptop, and its showing my HDDs with my films etc on, however when i try to open the folders, it comes up with ''Windows cannot access\\**my PC name**\*my HDD**'', then the usefull-as-ever- error message 'contact your system admin'

    Re: File sharing/syncing between laptop & compter

    I was under the impression that filesharing in that vein required passwords in order to work, but I could be wrong.

    Streaming films should be as easy as just sharing the files by right clicking the folder and choosing to share them - if the bitrate is too high for the network to cope with, you might want to look at TVersity as an alternative though.

    Re: File sharing/syncing between laptop & compter

    Iv got all the HDDs set up to share, yet whenever i select them on my laptop it comes up with access denied.

    I cant understand why everything had passwords/login requirements...when i havent set any of them up. Tad frustrating

    edit; Windows Live Sync is an excellent bit of kit, just what i was after thanks!

    Still wouldn't mind a way of viewing films on my laptop that are stored on my computer though!
