How to play 'BD' disc on a PC?
hello,
A friend recently made a disc for me containing HD video files made using his HD camcorder. I've tried opening the files (m2ts format?) in WMP, but I'm having no luck whatsoever. According to 'My Computer', the disc is a BD one, whatever that is (I'm assuming Blu-ray?).
Any ideas?

You'd need a blu-ray drive if it's a blu-ray disc.

Do you have a blu ray drive in your pc? Because if the disk is a blu ray, then I'd imagine you have one because you can see the files. If not then the disk is something else, probably a standard dvd.
And secondly to play m2ts files, see this-

hello,
Sorry I wasn't clear. I have only a standard DVD drive, not a Blu-Ray one. But I do get this image in 'My Computer':

This is what made me think the files are blu-ray format.
I'll check out VLC player now.
Re: How to play 'BD' disc on a PC?
Couldn't you copy or rip the contents and play it from your hard drive?
Re: How to play 'BD' disc on a PC?
The BluRay spec does have support for BD content on normal DVD disks, so windows probably sees the content and says "yeah, that looks right".
For more info, see Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluray#Variants

Media player classic home cinema is what you need.

I didn't know it had been forked (or that Gabest had stopped working on it). Thanks for the pointer.

hello,
Thanks for the advice!
I've tried VLC player, but I get lots of stuttering. In addition, I get a lot of distortion effects, especially when the view of the camera moves.
The media player classic home cinema program just doesn't seem to work at all. It won't even start to play the video file.

I bought this for my pc a couple of months ago

If you want just a player this one works great (it also plays HD-DVD disks and is a lightscribe dvd writer). I've been saving up for a HD monitor and got this drive ready, still plays good on my old 42" plasma.
If you use a DVI cable you may have to check if your monitor and gpu are both HDCP compatible, or they won't play. If you use and old vga cable it should be ok, thats what i use to my plasma for now, ok its not hd but it still looks better than dvd.

Just some player software is needed, whats been sugested so far is free and open source.
Re: How to play 'BD' disc on a PC?
I can recommend the KMPlayer.
Was using VLC before, but from my point of view, KMPlayer is much much better.
