Odd that it's Core2 Extreme, rather than Core i7, based... if you're marketing something as a cutting edge solution you'd expect the latest processor class, surely...?

I would wait for dual socket Nehalem, 16 theads 8 cores and will be about 30-50% faster than that workstation at same clock speed :)

Perhaps if you can do this to your boss and pc at work :thumbsup:

That said, I don\'t think it would exactly be lacking in performance at any point, and if you are spending that much then whats a few more quid?

You can get a Dell system with a 4GB Video card and a Tesla card in it for around £10,000

I\'d love to see the 3D video modelling on a system like that

No check the specs
It's the 3 Tesla cards that are doing the majority of the work there.
Tesla cards are basically a gpu (240streams) and a load of memory (4gb per card) but setup not to be able to do direct video outputting but purely other forms of multi-stream processing.

Must say that's a hunky beast of a machine.
What's the price tag?

that is EXACTLY what 0iD wants it for,.... to model every weld, bolt and screw in big monster machines....

But yes, for large scale ProE/Solid Works/CATIA parametreic models & FEA it'd be the dog's danglybits.

If that's the case, then why not save a bunch of cash and just wire up a bunch of dog's to your current rig? :P
