    E8500+DDR3? and gaming rig

What sort of performance boosts are gained when using an E8500 with DDR3 besides the overclocking benefits?
To be more specific how would this PC cope with games...

Edited for new pic and link if the pic doesnt work lol

Post a bigger picture as the thumbnail does not want to expand!! Also DDR3 is wasted on a Core2 processors. Just go with DDR2. The other alternative is a Phenom II X3 720 or a Phenom II X4 940 as these can get to 3.4ghz+ easily with many people reaching nearly 4ghz.

Thank you for the lightning fast reply =D <3

Ahh ok. I was originally thinking along the lines of the phenom II but after a few comments against them I was somewhat put off. The main point of the thread is pretty much redundant if the DDR3 is wasted.

The Phenom II is actually quite good value for money.

The Phenom II X3 720 in many cases can have the fourth core unlocked. Also many people can get it to 3.4ghz too:

Here is a good processor comparison tool from AnandTech:

    Re: E8500+DDR3? and gaming rig

If your sugguesting and i7 what in that build would you sacrifice for the extra £200 needed for the mobo and Chip? I thought that the graphics card was far far more important than the cpu anyway? Wouldnt an overclocked Core 2 or Phenom II beat an i7 in reguards to gaming if the Core 2 or Phenom II was paired with a considerable better graphics card? Baring in mind I would like a 24" monitor within the budget aswell.

It would. That's why going i7 just for gaming is a waste unless you spend extra on top to get the same quality parts as a Core 2 setup would be.
