    So triple channel offers jack all except for that 3rd/6th memory slot then.

    Nice I think this makes an i7 upgrade look even cheaper

    6gb of 1600mhz DDR3 will cost between £90 to £100:

    If you go for 3gb or even 1333mhz DDR3 it will be even cheaper.

    I think the main problem are the motherboards which cost £160+ and the CPU itself which is well over £200.

    Yeah..

    The CPU's are only over £200 because they're quads. If there were some i7 duals that'd help bring down the price of an upgrade.

    I seem to remember that the difference between dual channel and single channel is also very small.
